Apparently Gordon Brown said we were well-placed to weather the recession. Now he's saying how well-placed we are to withstand swine flu, how afraid should we be? Reply #4. Apr 28 09, 3:31 PM |

Let's hope it goes the way of SARS and Bird Flu. We heard a lot about those too. I think it is kind of fishy that it bagan after Obama visited Mexico and shook hands with a guy that died the next day. Do I hear CONSPIRACY? Reply #7. Apr 28 09, 4:25 PM |

Let’s hear it for “smoke and mirrors”, who needs to worry about losing their homes and jobs when we can now panic about catching a cold instead! Reply #11. Apr 29 09, 3:52 AM |

Why is it that when Bird Flu was in places like Vietnam which are considered Third World we could still get very accurate death and infection figures, but there doesn't seem to be anything similar coming out of Mexico? Reply #13. Apr 29 09, 8:35 AM |

I just saw that Egypt is planning on killing every pig in the country over the flu and that I think it's the WHO is considering changing the name of swine flu because people are afraid of getting it from pork. I personally think they did a fine job of scaring the bejeesus out of people for no real reason. Reply #14. Apr 29 09, 10:03 AM |

Sal, the Chinese and the Russians have already banned pork imports from Mexico, and Indonesia, The Phillipines and Ukraine have banned pork imports from all of North America. This is a major blow to the Canadian pork exporting business since Canada is the largest pork exporter in the world. Banning pork imports from North America is a shing example of over-reaction and apploed misinformation on the part of the governments that have taken such measures because this 'flu is a human health issue, not a food safety issue. People are panicking because the media has dubbed it swine 'flu when it is actually a new strain which incorporates swine, avian and human 'flu strains. It is not contracted from pork but from human contact. If the media would call it by its proper name H1N1 strain there would be less panic about pork. We now have 13 reported cases in Canada - up from six on Monday. Fortunately, they are mild cases and not life threatening. As yet, there are no cases reported in my province, Manitoba. Reply #17. Just to put this out there, the swine flu cannot be transmitted by food so eating pork is fine, but make sure you wash your hands first! Reply #19. Apr 29 09, 6:20 PM |
