I read a headline that she was taking thirty changes of clothing for a nine-day visit, and I assumed that she would be promoting British fashion. perhaps she will be, but she spent her first day in clothes by French and Canadian designers. Clever girl (or clever advisers). Reply #1. Jul 01 11, 1:49 PM |

Thirty changes of outfit for 9 days sound quite modest, think I need to have a word with my better half on how to travel light...lol Hope the visit is of mutual enjoyment! Reply #2. Jul 01 11, 2:01 PM |

Will and Kate are certainly a new breed of royals. They actually communicate with one another, with looks, smiles, the occasional touch (like William handing Catherine down from the landau that brought them to Parliament Hill this morning, and her giving his knee an encouraging pat after the cheers of the crowd took him aback and made him blush - he actually ducked his head a la Diana). Can't ever remember seeing any royals doing that in public before. Good on them! A royal tour of Canada usually draws between 500 and 800 journalists, the majority of them Canadian, sprinkled with a few Brits and Americans. This tour is being covered by 1,396 journalists from all over the Commonwealth, from the US, France, Luxembourg, Japan, China and - of all places - Qatar. Fascinators have never been as big in Canada as they are in the UK, but they were everywhere adorning the heads of young women in the crowd of 300,000 that crowded onto Parliament Hill - which isn't a huge space - and lined the route that the Duke and Duchess took from Rideau Hall (the residence of our Governor-General, where they are staying in Ottawa) to Parliament Hill. And the Canadian Smythe jacket that Catherine wore when she arrived in Canada has been sold out in stores across Canada! Reply #4. Jul 01 11, 10:56 PM |

I think they're doing very well, and she certainly seems to be coping with crowds of people brilliantly. Anyway, on the fashion aspect I was just reading the Daily Telegraph's live feed which read: 20.53pm Good news! The Duchess's latest outfit is still available. 21.02pm Too late. Apparently the Vanessa dress sold out in eight minutes. LOL. Reply #5. Jul 03 11, 2:44 PM |

Today the young royals are in Canada's smallest province, Prince Edward Island, home of Anne of Green Gables, great potatoes and more fiddlers per square hectare than enough! There were mini-protests against the royal visit in both Montreal and Quebec (some people have never been able to get over the fact that Wolfe won that battle on the Plains of Abraham), but the handful of protesters boos were drowned out by the waves of applause and cheers. Will and Kate seem to run late on most appearances because they insist on meeting people and doing walkabouts, even when they're not scheduled. Nobody seems to care overmuch, the crowds are delighted, but I expect the protocol people are on nerve pills! By the way there are fascinators being worn on PEI today, and most of them seem to be miniatures of Anne of Green Gables' straw hat. In Calgary, Will and Kate will be greeted by a sea of miniature stetsons worn as fascinators! How weird is that? Reply #6. Jul 04 11, 9:23 AM |

Will and Kate are such beautiful natural people who seem honestly interested in the people. As for Calgary, Stetsons are expected. The Calgary Stampede is from July 8-17. PETA is asking Will and Kate to cancel attending. Reply #7. Jul 04 11, 9:44 AM |

Judy, as a former Calgarian - before my escape to God's country - I recognize the fact that Stetsons are de rigeur for the Stampede, it's the miniature kind I find weird! As for PETA, I'm not in favour of cruelty to animals, but that bunch long ago lost all credibility with me because of their outlandish, over-the-top shenanigans. I'm not a big fan of rodeo, either, but most of the charges levelled at rodeo by PETA are not based in fact. Reply #8. Jul 04 11, 8:44 PM |

Here's another departure from the norm for royal tours. Will and Kate are now in Yellowknife in the Northwest Territories and tomorrow (Wednesday) is supposed to be a rest day for them. Are they taking time off? Not at all. They're going to visit Slave Lake, in northern Alberta to meet the people who lost their homes and businesses when 40% of the town was destroyed by a major forest fire in May. Yesterday, Will demonstrated his piloting skills by taking part in a search and rescue exercise in Prince Edward Island. He 'waterbirded' for the first time (that's landing a helicopter on water, a manoeuvre used by Canadian S&R pilots that isn't taught anywhere else in the world) and he aced it first time, which impressed the heck out of all the S&R pilots! Later, Will and Kate enjoyed a seafood cookout on the beach, and engaged in a dragon boat race (Will's team beat Kate's). Now they're in the NWT, and tomorrow they're off to Slave Lake, to show their concern for people who have lost everything. These two are menschen to the max! Reply #9. Jul 05 11, 12:21 PM |

They definitely represent Britain well. You know they must be tired but they are always enthusiastic with big smiles on their faces. A beautiful pair. Street hockey today. Reply #10. Jul 05 11, 1:12 PM |

Shiningstar, please repost this as a new topic in People (if it doesn't exist on any other board) as it doesn't relate to their Canadian trip. Reply #12. Dec 04 12, 6:12 AM |
