It's a cold, wet day here in Melbourne so I hope the Diggers are rugged up nice and warm for their march. Lest we forget. Reply #1. Apr 24 12, 6:21 PM |

Today marks 100 years since the very first ANZAC Day. When the Australian and New Zealand soldiers left their friends and families behind and went to war at Gallipoli, no-one knew if they'd go home alive, and many of them didn't. By the end of 1915, no less than 11,430 Australian and New Zealand soldiers had died. Let's all take a moment to remember these brave men and women. Reply #5. Apr 24 16, 7:45 PM |

Today (April 24) is also the 100th anniversary of the Easter Rebellion in Dublin. Although it was a failure, it laid the groundwork for Ireland's eventual independence. "Through and through in my dreams I go / And I kneel and pray for you / For slavery fled, O! Glorious Dead / When you fell in the Foggy Dew." Reply #6. Apr 24 16, 8:13 PM |

Both events should be buried not celebrated. Frankly Anzac Day has turned into a booze up here in Australia - I cannot see the sense in celebrating what was a colossal stuff up and cost a lot of brave lives unnecessarily. Reply #7. Apr 25 16, 12:08 AM |
