Subject: Monthly Feature Challenges

Posted by: WesleyCrusher
Date: Jan 04 17

The FunTrivia challenge area has a new section "featured", not only for new challenges but also for a monthly highlight. With over 300 challenges to choose from, there is something for everyone and there are ways to play you may have forgotten about.

Every month, at some point during the first week (since this is done manually, it won't always be the 1st), we'll pick a number of challenges, usually 5 to 10, from different areas of the site and make them available at the very top of the list - along with some hints, links and techniques in the monthly feature commentary.

It'll all be a mix - some months may focus on really easy challenges, some on the toughest ones. Some may be mostly for free members, others more for our Gold Member subscribers - but across the year, there will be something for everyone.

This thread will be used not only to provide a record of the various monthly highlights, but it's also for you to make some suggestions as what you might want to see up there!

After our December holiday badges were something just for our Gold Members, let's do something for everyone - and a little group of nine fun challenges that often gets overlooked:

January 2017: Scavenger Hunts for free players

One of our most popular badge types is the scavenger hunt - a quest to play a certain selection of our over 130,000 quizzes. While most of these scavenger hunts are available only to our Gold Members, a few of these are open to our free members as well. Why not take a look at these and see if you enjoy them?

Amethyst Scavenger (Intro Challenge, 6 quizzes)
The simplest of all the scavengers simply calls for you to play 6 selected quizzes - it's one of the really easy to get awards and gets you one step closer to the "You Graduated" badge should you not have that yet. (Note: Due to it being an intro challenge, it has not been moved into the feature area).

Topaz Scavenger (Topaz tier, 12 quizzes)
A step up from the Amethyst version, the Topaz Scavenger is a 12-quiz challenge without a time limit. Unlike for most scavengers, you will need to use the quiz search (e.g. near the top of the quiz home page) to locate the quizzes.

Quizzes of the Hour (Amethyst tier, 24 quizzes)
One of the two full badges (and thus levels) in this month's lineup, this challenge requires you to play any 24 Quizzes of the Hour. You never know what you may find - many of the quizzes you see there are quite several years old, others are brand new!

24 Hours of History (Amethyst tier, approximately 20 to 40 quizzes)
Most of the popular "24 Hours" badgelets are for Gold Members only, but three of them are available to free members as well. Take your pick as to which history quizzes you prefer - the category has ample options! A total of 200 correct answers are required - even if you play in timed quiz game mode. Points for rating won't count, sorry!

24 Hours of Hobbies (Topaz tier, approximately 20 to 40 quizzes)
This works just the same as the previous challenge, except you'll need to be proficient in Hobbies. Do you prefer food, games or something else?

24 Hours of Science (Garnet tier, approximately 16 to 35 quizzes)
Science can be a difficult topic and our selection of easier quizzes in this area is a bit limited, so we're giving you a 20% discount on this "24 hours" challenge: Only 160 correct answers are needed to secure this badgelet, but they have to be scored in this category.

Buzzy Bee Scavenger (Topaz tier, 1 quiz if you're lucky - very many if not!)
This challenge can take you 2 minutes or many weeks. Look out on The Buzz and see if a challenge is active. If it is, you'll find a subcategory there and you'll need to play the magic quiz which can be any one there (in that exact category, not one of its further subcategories). You need to get 7 answers right and you need to be the first to do so - and, unlike with most scavengers, there's no retrying!

Alphabet Soup (Garnet tier, 26 quizzes)
For a change, you can pick and play any quiz you want and still get credit towards this particular challenge, but you will need to cover all the letters of the alphabet (and there are not that many quizzes whose titles start with an X) and you only have 24 hours. Make sure your title actually starts with the letter - punctuation or a number in front of the letter will not count!

If you want to contribute an "X" quiz to give everyone more options, why not head over to the Player Author Challenges and accept an "X" title? There are almost always some in there to help build the X factor of our quiz list!

Library (Sapphire tier, 30 quizzes)
Our highest tier challenge for this month is all about books. You'll need to be well read as you won't be able to finish this with just one author's works (although Shakespeare can probably get you quite close): You need to complete one quiz in each of 30 Literature subcategories. Oh, to make it a bit harder, we're only giving you 2 weeks (so you'll need to average a bit above 2 quizzes per day) and you'll need 70% correct. No retries here, so choose wisely!

So, did you finish these? There are over 30 more scavenger hunts available for Gold Members - some of them encompassing upwards of a hundred quizzes and challenging even the most dedicated quizzer!

You can start your adventure on the monthly feature page: http://www.funtrivia.com/challenges.cfm?id=999

One hint regarding the Buzzy Bee. I believe you need to use the HTML mode rather than the quiz (timed) mode.

This is an excellent new feature - well done.
One small thing - it looks like the addition of the Monthly Feature has increased the challenge count - is that deliberate?

No, that's solely a side effect of how they're counted. The "Monthly Feature" is internally represented as a challenge, except you can't solve it.

February 2017: In for the long haul

When looking at the New badges thread in the forum, one of the most requested types seems to be "I want another one of those that ask me to do a lot of [favorite activity], can we up this a notch or five?"

So let's look at a selection of badges that will keep you busy for a while!

Crossword Crusher (Diamond tier, at least 20 hours)
Let's start with one you could conceivably win in a single day - if you can maintain an average speed of 3 minutes per crossword you complete. If you want this, just pretend that the "Easy Mode" button doesn't even exist, because any time you'll press it, you might just as well start the next puzzle. Only hard mode completions count - if you want a fast time, look for small, easy puzzles. On your way, you'll earn three more badges: Crossword, Crossword Wizard and Crossworder.

Jack of All Trades (Obsidian tier, at least 4 days, 4 hours)
If you don't need to sleep for more than 1 hour 50 minutes at a time and have perfect knowledge of every subject in existence, you can get this one in under five days. All it takes is to win every Expert game on offer and hope there won't be any repeat categories in that time. Oh, you might want to gain some levels beforehand as this badge requires a minimum number of players in a game (4) and the low divisions don't always reach that number. On your way, you can grab the Achievement: Expert, I am the Expert and Jack of Many Trades awards, too.

Word Marathon (Diamond tier, at least 115 days)
No more sprints! This one will take you at least several months, even if you play almost every game. Long words will be key to high scores, so you'll want to judiciously trade letters to make mostly words of 7 or more letters. Apart from needing to be good at Word Wizard and having a decent vocabulary (or a good anagram generator for the lazy). You might also want to brush up on your letter management skills you acquired playing in those Scrabble championships. You'll definitely gain the Wordsmith award on the way, and most likely you'll also nab some of the others available in the Word Wizard game.

Team Magnate (Ruby tier, at least 340 days)
If you're not up to playing trivia all your waking hours, how about just doing two games per day? If you're good and average 1470 points per game, you'll just need 340 days of Team Heroes and Team vs Team to get this one; at a more realistic 1100 point average, it'll be a year and 89 days. On your way, you'll pick up the Team Stakeholder and Team Tycoon awards as well.

Diamond Knockout (Diamond tier, at least 349 days)
You don't really want to play every day? Well, we'll give you Saturday, Sunday and Monday off - all you need to do is play your Knockout matches on the other four days each week and win them. All of them. Only championships count, so once you get to the higher divisions, you'll face some mighty opposition. Incidental spoils abound here: Knock 'em Out!, Knockout Winner, Knockout Champ, Emerald Knockout, Ruby Knockout and Knockout Hero are all guaranteed while you get this.

Two Years of New (Sapphire tier, at least 2 years)
If you're not that great at getting those perfect scores, how about a badge that will let you succeed with any score? You just need to play the New Question Game 730 times. You should rate those questions as well, but if you occasionally forget, we'll look the other way. The downside of this award is that you won't have any automatic pickups on the way. But you'll get to play a lot of trivia on a plethora of subjects and that counts for something, right?

Cosmic Brain (Diamond tier, at least 4 years and 169 days)
If you're among the most dedicated trivia addicts, this one's for you: Play for at least four and a half years, placing among the 20 highest points numbers every single day - that will take about 15,000 points per day. Or, you could do it more efficiently with half of that daily amount (which is conveniently also the "slow and steady" number for Ascension Quest point challenges), scoring 18 to 19 brains every day and finishing in roughly six years. Or you could go for the minimum daily points to gain any brains - around 3700 - and spend the rest of your life on this challenge: At that rate, you'd be busy for a century and a bit. There's a whole squadron of attrition awards coming to your profile while you grab this: 20,000, Point Apprentice, Point Duke, Point Prince, Point King, Point God, Big Brain, Super Brain, Atomic Brain and Quantum Brain will all fall your way.

Pet Monster III (Obsidian tier, at least 6 years and 143 days)
If I didn't overlook anything, this one's the longest challenge we have available in terms of days needed, but it's also one of the easiest. You don't even need to get a single question right while you complete the first 4% of the million-question Monster Quiz. It's probably no surprise that the awards on the way are all Monster-related: Monsterific!, Monsterific 2!, A Pet Monster and Pet Monster II.

That's not enough for you? You could always try to unlock the maximum level on the Dueler's Path. Currently, this will take you well over 8 years of perfect play - and there's no guarantee that by the time you get there, we won't simply add another one, two or ten steps. But as they say, even a journey of a thousand badges begins with a single question.

This Month: March 2017: (Almost) No Questions Asked

So you are not in the mood to play any quizzes? The hourly and daily games don't motivate you at all? And the Global Challenge is down for half of March, so you can't dig your teeth into that either? Well, you could take a month off or you could just take the time and grab these awards, none of which will require that you answer even one of our quiz questions.

(These are also great for Lent if you've decided a quizzing fast is for you)

Chatterbox (Emerald Tier): Now that you're not busy playing quizzes, interact with some people. Head over to the Chat Boards and contribute. Don't overdo it - this badge requires consistency, not one-day spam sprees. You'll need to make a few well thought out posts every day and keep at it for a while.

A Riddle (Emerald Tier): If you'd rather work those grey cells a bit, why not try this riddle? Each line stands for one word. Don't fell victim to the temptation of playing if you happen to happen to hit a quiz or game page while you're hunting.

Code Breaker (Diamond Tier): Just in case the riddle was too easy for you or you fear you won't be able to resist playing if you hit a quiz page, this one can be solved without ever leaving the challenge page. You'll need to spend some time on Google or Wikipedia however to find out about all those codes, of course.

Armchair Champ (Miscellaneous): Okay, this badge requires quiz questions to be answered. But it won't be you answering them. Instead, you can comfortably pick your Fantasy Knockout favorites, watch them play and win and all you need to do is to count those points as they come in.

Leader (Miscellaneous): If you found making others do the work rewarding, you can turn it into a full-time FunTrivia career. Found a team (or pick an inactive one to revive), recruit twenty people to your cause and make them play every day. You'll need to provide your own whip if you need one to beat your trivia slaves into submission, but we rather recommend that you make use of the tools we provide to motivate a team of happy, eager players: a team message board, monthly team newsletters, the Recruiting board and, of course, a great team description and well designed header images.

An Author Challenge (Topaz Tier): As we've just seen, making others answer questions for you can be rewarding. But they won't be able to do that unless they actually have some questions to answer. So how about you provide them with an extra ten choices? Head over to the Author Challenges, pick the most difficult title you can find and compose a great quiz. Or ten. We didn't say anything about not writing any questions, just about not answering them!

AskFT Researcher (Ruby Tier): So the itch is back and you absolutely need to answer a few questions? But you don't want to give in, even though there are so many interesting new quizzes? Here's your cure: Scroll the homepage all the way to the bottom and answer some of the Ask FunTrivia questions. If you want some difficult choices, have a look at the unanswered question list. One hundred answers will net you this badge - and we won't even blame you if you get one or two of them wrong. You're also still not answering any quiz questions.

I know, those excuses are running thin now, so I'll stop. Happy badge hunting! And don't forget all your trivia knowledge, you'll need it for April's featured challenges!

This Month: April 2017: The Big Seven

There are easy badges, there are hard ones and then there are the ones that will seem close to unachievable to the majority of players. Which, however, does not prevent people from trying and ultimately succeeding. Here are, in my own, personal opinion, the seven most difficult challenges available on the site. The big bosses. The ones that have Damage Reduction 40/Epic Adamantine and knock you for 180 points of damage in one hit, no save... oops, wrong game.

If you ever get even one of these in your FunTrivia career, you're among the best. Getting all seven... good luck. You'll need it, regardless of how skilled you are (and by that, I mean superhuman).

7. Diamond Knockout (71 so far)
Why this is on the list: To win a knockout week in one of the top divisions (and after winning your first 20 or so, you will be there), you need to beat the best of the best. Not one of them, but four in a row. And you won't need to do it just once, you'll need to do it 30 more times.
Why it isn't even higher: The question pool for Knockout is maybe a bit more limited than that of other games - it's a general trivia mix and if you play the game a lot, you'll get to memorize a lot of answers.
How to prepare: Practice Knockout (okay, you do that anyway) as well as the Hourly Mix and about any other mixed game you find.
If you're not quite ready for this, try: Path of the Predators - also a one on one badge, but you can get there by sheer persistence, even if you don't have that perfect win rate.

6. The Everything Challenge (166 so far)
Why this is on the list: "Everything" is the keyword here. You can't afford a weak game. You need to nail them all to get a good score in this 18-part obstacle course.
Why it isn't even higher: You can retry the hourlies and Gold Member Madness and you'll only need one perfect day. Also, you're up against a fixed score, not head to head against the player you can never seem to beat.
How to prepare: Practice your weakest games and the high point ones (Mind Melt!). You won't win or lose this on a 10-point swing in your strong games, it'll be the 500-point loss in the weak one that ends your daily run. Try this all the days when the Pot of Gold and Heroes topics are in your favor!
If you're not quite ready for this, try: Some daily challenges. They ask for the same kind of variety without the 18 games requirement and the nasty threshold.

5. Totally Epic (80 so far)
Why this is on the list: Much like the Everything Challenge (in fact, "Everything" was inspired by one of the epics), you'll need to be good at all aspects of trivia and then some. You'll also need some persistence and luck of the draw.
Why it isn't even higher: Out of the listed, it's the one that rewards persistence the most. You will get these epics if you just buy enough challenges and, individually, they're not as hard as the others seen here.
How to prepare: There's really no secret here except to play your dailies every day and to buy one (but only one) extra challenge every day you can do so (keeping the cost low).
If you're not quite ready for this, try: Daily Conqueror. You might find those epics falling into your lap while you happily grind away at this.

4. Question Quest Challenge 2 (82 so far)
Why this is on the list: It seems simple to write an easy to medium difficulty question, but it is rather tough. Add to that the requirement that your questions will need to be worded well enough to stand out and gather positive ratings and you have a beast of an authoring challenge. Even the best authors don't qualify many more than half of their questions.
Why it isn't even higher: If you can occasionally write a good question, brute force (i.e. just writing lots of them) will sooner or later get you there.
How to prepare: Take author lounge challenges and commissions and take part in authoring events. Authoring under time pressure or with additional requirements will produce many ideas and you'll also become a much better author when you can put all your creativity into just making a great question.
If you're not quite ready for this, try: TRIC Trophy - a different authoring experience.

3. Pot of Gold (293 so far)
Why this is on the list: Two colors are easy, four aren't that bad, even six seems possible. But who added that [insert swear word of your choice] seventh category? The one you never seem to master? And you need to get a real first place in your question set there. "Just good" isn't going to cut it.
Why it isn't even higher: Sometimes that elusive last win can be closer than you think - a perfect storm of questions and, bingo.
How to prepare: Smartest and Expert games in your weak categories will help you build skill in them. Don't mind that ELO rating...
If you're not quite ready for this, try: Pot of Gold Hoarder or any of the monthlies. Practice your weak categories while also getting a good dose of your good ones to keep you motivated.

2. Hardcore Immortal (132 so far)
Why this is on the list: Much like Pot of Gold and the Everything challenge, this will test your skill in your weak areas and take you out of your comfort zone twice every day. Plus, 10 correct in 130 seconds on Impossible!? You'll want to get those at least every now and then.
Why it isn't even higher: People are actually getting there, so it must be possible somehow.
How to prepare: Play the Global Challenge on normal, taking in as many asterisk topics as you can and do the lower-ranked challenges on this list.
If you're not quite ready for this, try: The Normal Mode Immortal is the same thing, just in your strong categories.

1. Ascended (24 so far)
Why this is on the list: Hundreds of quizzes, hand-picked to reflect the best and the hardest of the site. Game score requirements that require you to be in the 90th and sometimes 99th percentile among the FunTrivia elite. Daily score tasks, authoring and fiendish logic puzzles. All of this and more embedded into an item hunt and adventure game that require you to pay attention at every single move or you'll miss a vital clue and do it all over. Heck, it's difficult enough we're not even letting you try before you're level 100.
Why it isn't even higher: Pure logic. You can't beat #1.
How to prepare: Play everything available. At some point, you will need it. Author some quizzes for good measure. Say good bye to all other hobbies. And learn to keep and organize notes and backups. More than one backup. You wouldn't be the first player replaying half of the game to retrieve your information after a hard disk crash!
If you're not quite ready for this, try: The Great Quiz Race II - it offers essentially the same type of challenges and tasks at a more mortal-friendly level.

If you're already done with all of these, well, there's always Divine Rank 1 to go for. (And if your FunTrivia name is eyhung, how about "Crossword Architect"?)

During April it looks like 9 people won one of the Big 7 (which were the challenges of the month). There were 2 Diamond KO winners, 3 Everything Challenge winners, 3 Totally Epic winners, and 1 Pot of Gold Winner. Not bad considering Hardcore Immortal wasn't even available.

In theory, it could go here "safely" (in just a post, without the challenge links) while you await the green-light in the Tower list.

May 2017: Level Challenges

There's a small, hidden section of challenges that many players tend to overlook and some of you might not even know about: The level bonus challenges. Currently, this set consists of 12 special awards which become available as you break through a level number evenly divisible by 25. Here's one from each of the tiers:

1. Level 25: Tyro - Triple Win

If you've made it here, you're past the early stages and you're most likely hooked. You've tried all the games, so now it's time to prove your worth. Choose the three of the hourly games you are best at - the choices are Piece of Cake, Smartest, Mixed, Fill the Blank, Word Wizard, Expert and Obscurity - and win your division in each of them.

2. Level 50: Maven - Great Quiz Race II

At the rank of Maven, you can now finish the first Great Quiz Race and start the second one. No additional level requirements will get into your way as you battle through another over 20 quiz stages, assorted games and a few puzzles to spice things up.

3. Level 75: Savant - Challenge Crusher

I hope that during all your leveling, you didn't neglect those little badgelets that don't give levels on their own, because now is when you need them. In addition to your 75 levels, you'll need 50 of those mini-badges to qualify as a Challenge Crusher. If you have the level but lack some mini-badges, take a look at the intro challenges (there are 15 options there) as well as some of the easier scavenger hunts and 24 hours badgelets.

4. Level 100: Centurion - The Centurion Conundrum

The rank of Centurion once constituted the top of the level pyramid, but even today, as the top players have reached more than twice the levels, it still represents a major achievement. Only dedicated and talented players get here. As a reward you get your very personal conundrum, a challenge that works similar to the popular Halloween events. You need to fill 10 criteria all at once, but only trying out and observing the results will tell you what they are.

Now that you're here, you're also free to join Ascension Quest - a game so hard that we're not letting anyone below level 100 even attempt it.

5. Level 125: Legend - Legendary Champion

You've come a good distance since you were level 25, so let's adapt that challenge to fit your new rank. First, we're no longer happy with just three wins - you'll now need seven. Also, we're no longer satisfied with one good hour - you'll need to be among the best for an entire month, demonstrated by the respective Monthly Winner badge. All the hourlies listed above are at your disposal, with the exception of the Expert game (which does not have a monthly standing). In addition, you have the option of playing Gold Member Madness, Who Am I? or Mind Melt. You need seven of nine - Captain Janeway would be proud of you.

6. Level 150: Master of Trivia - Challenge Mastery

150 is twice 75 and so is this level's only challenge so far: You need twice the level, you need twice the mini-challenges and your badge for completing it will be twice as large.

7. Level 175: Elder Coryphea - At this tier, which currently holds 70 players, we do not have any special challenges, but you can always take on any of the "Big 7" that were featured last month to further climb the pyramid.

8. Level 200: Oracle of Minutiae - Only 15 players so far have reached these lofty heights and there are no challenges for them yet either. If you're at this level, you have pretty much conquered everything; if you're looking for a suitably difficult task, how about trying for a full set of triple flag epics?

9. Level 225: ??? - Not unlocked yet. The top right now is 218. Anyone want to try and break into this tier before the June feature goes up?

This Month: June 2017: A Way with Words

Even with a few extra days, no one has broken into the 9th level tier yet. So its name will have to remain a mystery for now. But what's a name if not just a word for something? That reminds me of all the things you can do with words on FunTrivia. Here are eight options for you - one from each difficulty tier.

Achievement: Word Wizard (Amethyst Tier)

Before you can do anything useful with words, you need to know what they mean. Here's your chance to prove you have that part down: Play Word Wizard and get all fifteen definitions right. You have two minutes, so you won't need to hurry. If you are unsure about one of the words, eliminate the choices you know are wrong and make sure you pay attention to the word type - if the word is an adjective, the definition has to reflect that!

24 Hours of Literature (Topaz Tier)

Probably the best way to improve your skill with words is reading. Our Literature quizzes are the perfect excuse to (re)read a few books. And if you happen to get two hundred answers right on these quizzes within 24 hours, we'll give you a badgelet to show how well read you are.

Wordsmith (Garnet Tier)

Once you know some words, you need to create your own. The Word Wizard bonus game allows all gold members to try their hands at that skill (and improve their Scrabble scores in the process). Just complete and turn in a few words for your first 30 points. Once you have this particular award, look out for other ones in the higher tiers. The flagship award of this series - Word Marathon - is the same thing, just almost 167 times as difficult, so you have a long way to go...

Mind Melt (Emerald Tier)

Definitions are a good way to train your vocabulary, but if you want more variety, Mind Melt is for you. The first section is just definitions in match quiz form, but the second is about antonyms and the third uses loose relationships between words. Keep track of what you already used and if things just don't seem to match up, remember that looks can be deceiving: Some words have more than one meaning, possibly even in a different pronunciation, and you may be trying to match the wrong one! Win your daily division (and that's harder than it sounds) and this award is yours.

Crossword Wizard (Sapphire Tier)

If you're used to quizzes, you know that every question clearly and unambiguously defines its correct answer. How would you like to play a quiz that doesn't necessarily always guarantee that but leaves you to puzzle out the specifics from other clues? Well, then crosswords are for you. Solve fifty crosswords without peeking at the solution and you will get this badge!

Author Challenges(Ruby Tier)

Now that you have a great vocabulary, you should put it to some good use. A great way to do that is creative writing. The player author challenges are a perfect starting point for that. Pick one of the more or less unusual titles there (for a touch of news, you can try "Covfefe" if it's still available) and write a quiz that fits it. Once that quiz is online, do it nine more times. You will invariably be drawn into categories you never thought you'd write for (unless you are a Pangalactic finisher), but you'll also find your chances at getting that elusive "Editor's Choice" thumb going up by a factor of at least ten!

Crossword Super Author (Obsidian Tier)

You want to author but simply writing down questions and information is too easy for you? You want a real challenge? Well, first you'll need to prove you can master quiz writing before we will even let you try, but once you have some experience, you could try writing a crossword. Now, suddenly, you're not only faced with the challenge of turning your question into a seemingly too short definition of just two or three words - you also need to somehow connect that "MA" to the "NZ" without messing up the "RATE" next to that blank square you're trying to fill. (If your crossword includes German cities, you might be in luck with this particular task!). 25 crosswords authored are all it takes for this little badge.

Code Breaker (Diamond Tier)

What? You want an even harder task? Well, this little puzzle's solution is a word. No clues here. Get cracking.

After a featureless month of July (hey, you got a Race instead!) here's the latest entry in the series.

August 2017: A Brief History of Time

Are you a fast player or a slow one? Timing and its implications always had an effect, and sometimes a controversial one, on FunTrivia. Here's a selection of challenges that, in one way or another, deal with time.

990 (Ruby Tier)
We'll start with the fastest challenge on the site. Pick any 10-question quiz you want (you might want to look for a really easy one) and play it in the timed game mode. You need to score 990 points, that's an average of 99 per question. Getting one wrong is inevitably going to end your attempt, so you need to be accurate as well. The key to beating this one is how game mode works - and it will help you a lot in duels to practice this one. First, you can read the question text before the answers show up. Make sure you play with a real mouse (not a touchpad or touchscreen - those tend to register clicks which can start your timer before you are ready). Then answer the question in your head and click to start the answer displays. If the correct answer is one of the first three, you can click it immediately - no need to wait for the rest - and get 100 points. On the last one, you only have a very short time (less than half a second) to make it 100, but it is possible. You don't need that, however: if you get a few perfect 100s on the questions where the answer isn't the last one, you can afford a 98 or 97 here.

A Matter of Timing (Garnet Tier)
There are two ways to win this badgelet: By planning and by accident. A lot of lower levels will simply win it by trying for the Easy Game achievement and missing by a few tenths of a second. The rest of you, grab a stopwatch and play. Remember you want to submit as soon as the timer hits 40, maybe even a hair ahead. Your answers take about 0.1 to 0.2 seconds to reach the server. Oh, did I mention you want to get those questions right as well?

The Final Countdown (Obsidian Tier)
If timing your games to a fraction of a second is your strength, you'll love this one. Pick some quizzes, play the timed mode and get the exact scores called for. Again, you'll want reasonably easy quizzes, because you want that last question to make exactly the time you need. So stop for a moment once you are in range and calculate exactly what score you need. If you have a few questions left for that last attempt, all the better. Oh, and once you hit the number, make sure you don't accidentally click a correct answer and kill your carefully set-up score. It's better to let the attempt time out, regardless how anxious you are to hit. By the way, no one said these have to be 10-question quizzes, so if that 969 seems outside your speed range, simply play a 15-question one!

If intentionally missing questions isn't your thing, you can just take a difficult quiz for the low numbers and hope the last question is one you'll get.

Just a Minute (Obsidian Tier)
Play a basic HTML mode quiz and get 8 questions right. That's all it takes. Well, except that you only get one minute and some of that will be used for page loads. The link to the quiz you need only shows up once the minute has begun, so you need to reload, click through to the quiz, play and submit and do this all under 60 seconds. And on top of that, you will need to do it at the very time our random generator chooses. You may want to try this only after you can somewhat regularly achieve 45 second games in Smartest because that's how fast you will need to be.

24 Hours of Religion (Garnet Tier)
Does this one need much introduction? Like all of the "24 hours" challenges, all you need to do is to play quizzes of your choice in the category until you get 200 answers correct. And if this one isn't good enough for you, there are fourteen more of these 24 hour challenges you might want to play. Did you already get them all?

Rhyme Time (Emerald Tier)
How about a time challenge that lets you take as much time as you want? "Rhyme Time" is a classic scavenger hunt that will let you play at your own pace. 42 hand-picked quizzes and you only need to complete 35 of them, so you can pretty much at least skip your absolutely least favorite category. Unless, I guess, that is Brain Teasers. That category has eight entries here, so you can't avoid doing at least one of them.

Quizzes of the Hour (Amethyst Tier)
Finally, I can't let a monthly feature pass without a full badge (and it's the only one of them that has a "time" theme - Terry, you may take this as a hint). This is really easy to get: Check out the quiz of the hour whenever you log in and if it interests you, play it and get five answers right. Repeat 23 more times. There's no time limit here either, except of course you need to complete the quiz in the hour it was featured. Remember the quiz of the hour changes at :06 past the hour.

September 2017: Seven Golden Reasons

You're a FunTrivia Gold Member? Thanks for that! And while you're here, we want you to get the best value out of the 12 cents you paid for today's upgrade.

All Round Quizzer (Garnet Tier)

For many of our members, it's all about the ability to track your progress across twenty categories, over 130,000 quizzes and more than one and a half million trivia questions. Have you recently explored the gamut of what trivia truly means? There are so many things to discover, so why not venture into a few places you've not been to before? You'll be amazed of what you know even in areas you think you know nothing about. If you can't seem to get the required 9 of 10 right in one of the more specific categories, won't that be a good reason to reread one of your favorite books, watch a great movie again or listen to an album you last put on during your early teens?

Word Weaver (Obsidian Tier)

The Word Wizard bonus game is one of the most popular of these with players and probably the most satisfying moment in this game is to get one of the 11 or 12 letter jackpot words. The key to winning this one is to collect useful letters: Don't be afraid to play some short words to get rid of awkward letters while you collect important ones such as E, S and N. Don't overlook combos - ING for example is a powerful triplet.

Crossword Wizard (Sapphire Tier)

While every member can play crosswords, as a Gold Member, you get the scoring and tracking for them as well. Pick some of your favorite puzzles and challenge yourself to solve them without the help mode. If at the end, you are sure you got them all right, but the game doesn't want to score, check again - the most common reasons for missing a crossword score are variant spellings - be sure to check whether the puzzle wants British or American spellings - and an accidentally overwritten letter, often at the end of a word.

Obscure Knowledge (Sapphire Tier) and Obscure Researcher (Diamond Tier)

You don't need a Gold Membership to win the Global Challenge, but it can help - the Obscure game lets you play the same insane questions you will also face in the Impossible! round. Practice your educated guesses, your talent at spotting unintentional clues left by the author or simply your skill at lightning quick research in the Obscure game, including the one challenge where we actively encourage research during a quiz. Oh, and if you're one of the players who already won everything under the sun, you can challenge yourself to the unofficial "Obscure Perfection" award: Get a game where you meet both badges' requirements at once. That's 15 correct in 120 seconds. Good luck!

I'm the Biggest Fan (Ruby Tier)

A large number of the gold member challenges are the popular quiz scavenger hunts - a bouquet of hand-picked quizzes for you to play and enjoy. Out of these, the "Biggest Fan" challenge is the most demanding - you need to play 150 quizzes in 60 days - but also the one that leaves you the most choice: Pick any one of our most active authors, preferably of course the one whose quizzes you enjoy most, and start playing through their list. If you want the widest range of choices, our top five authors are kyleisalive (lots of television and video games to be had), CAGuy0206 (mostly movie cast and television quizzes), Nightmare (all kinds of sports), thejazzkickazz (a good mixture with a television bias) and dcpddc478 (pretty much everything that isn't TV, Video Games or Sports).

Great Quiz Race (Level 50 Bonus)

As the first of the premium "stage games" to be released, the Great Race is the place to go when you want to play quizzes, games and puzzles all woven into a story. With three parts online so far and most likely more to come, this will challenge you on a number of different aspects of trivia. You will almost certainly encounter a stage that doesn't meet your interests, but there's always the next one. And the next, and the next...

And yes, I love teasing you with fish and frogs. And no, you won't get the other one.

The Everything Challenge (Diamond Tier)

There's no better way to use your daily ticket to the maximum than to do everything. It's like getting all the fifty-seven rides and shows of the Magic Kingdom in one day, except here you actually have a chance to make it! As the only challenge on the site that will keep your personal best score for posterity as well as a site-wide high score list, this is one I can't recommend enough if you're a competitive player. The 22222 points you need for this elusive badge are just the beginning. Thirty players have managed to break 23000, five have even managed 24000 and the top score as of today is Upstart3's 24317. I'm sure 25000 is possible, but it'll require a perfect day, the kind of performance that is truly once in a lifetime. Could it be you?

Where would one find it? It is not under monthly challenge.
