I've collected UK/Irish numbers since I was a few years old, and switched to international when we lost our system in 2001. Prior to that the numbers went in the I Spy number plate book, since then I carry a camera and take photos of them. The best so far is a Guyanan diplomatic from the British Embassy seen in London, although I also saw a car from Mozambique in a supermarket car park but didn't have the camera. I also saw a US navy in Britain plate, also in a supermarket car park, two numbers, a space and five numbers. That's the only one I've ever seen, and the Guyanan one was one of maybe 10 issued to the embassy altogether from the length of the number referring to them. DPL (diplomatic) 1 (British embassy) -07 (staff number). That is rare indeed. Reply #1. Feb 17 10, 1:28 PM |

New Mexico has adopted a new design on our plates to commemorate our centennial in 2012. I think they made a good choice. Very different. http://www.krqe.com/dpp/news/politics/politics_krqe_santa_fe_new_license_plate_unveiled_200908111039 Reply #4. Mar 11 10, 9:46 PM |

Here in Western Australia, we have licence plates that indicate what town you live in e.g. KA = Katanning, AW = West Arthur, BT = Boddington, BM = Broome and so on. There are state plates as well, they are boring - a number, 3 letters, 3 numbers e.g 1ABC 123. Reply #8. Mar 12 10, 7:00 AM |

Yukon, NWT, has a license plate shaped like a polar bear. Most Yukoners when travelling outside their territory remove their license plates and display them in the front and rear windows of their vehicles because if they leave them on the exterior of the car/truck/RV, someone is sure to steal one or both because they're so unusual. My home province has plates bearing the slogan 'Friendly Manitoba' - truer words were never spoken (or written on a license plate). Reply #9. May 07 10, 12:56 AM |

I like the North West Territories plate the best of all Canadian ones, with its 'bear' design. The current Ontario auto one ( where I live) has the motto "Yours to Discover" on it but some of my out of province friends think it should read " Centre Of The Universe", Sigh. It's a Canadian thing... Reply #11. Jun 16 10, 5:34 PM |
