Wow a great loss. One of the greatest writers in the nation and one of the best books of all time. Yea I thought he was dead too and wasn't he a hermit. But RIP JD SALINGER. Reply #2. Jan 28 10, 8:36 PM |

I thought he was just hiding away, and would continue to hide for ever. I read Catcher in the Rye when I was 15/16 and think I would have appreciated it more if I'd been older. Not surprising, as he said he wrote it for adults. Then I read Franny and Zooey and thought it was boring and didn't read anything else of his. So it'll be interesting to see if his unpublished works are ever made public, and are worth reading. Reply #4. Jan 28 10, 9:26 PM |

Wouldn't it be lovely if he'd been writing a story a week for the last 40 years and we get to see them all now? Reply #5. Jan 28 10, 9:59 PM |

I had heard that many people had tried to get Catcher in the Rye made into a movie including Steven Spielberg but he wouldn't let anyone. So it will be interesting to see if it gets made into a movie now. What a great book! Reply #6. Jan 29 10, 3:32 AM |

Odd man. I read 'Catcher in the Rye' when I was in my teens and loved it. I'm not too sure that I'd want to see a movie made of the book. Few books translate well to the screen. RIP, Mr. Salinger. Reply #7. Jan 30 10, 11:52 PM |
