Subject: Seriously Miscast Actors/Actresses

On the 'Worst Actors/Actresses' thread on this board, trojan suggested a thread on miscast actors/actresses , so here it is.

My choice for seriously miscast actor is going to get me into a lot of trouble, but Sean Connert would not have been my first choice for James Bond. Nor was it Ian Fleming's, the creator of the superspy. Fleming's Bond-in-the-books is a suave, sophisticated, elegant chap, and Fleming's first choice was Cary Grant (that idea got nixed by the producers who couldn't afford Grant's asking price!). Others on Fleming's list - David Niven (who turned down the role because he felt he was too old, even though he had played Bond in 'Casino Royale'), Stewart Granger, James Mason and Rex Harrison. Fleming referred to Connery as 'an over-developed stuntman'.

Most seriously miscast actress? Much as I liked her in other roles, it has to be Jean Simmons as Julie Merigon in 'The Big Country'. What the heck is a girl from Lower Holloway in London doing running a ranch on the great plains of the United States. Give me a break!

Ouch! The line was "YONDER lies the castle of my father." I still laugh when I think of it.

Lol Cymruambyth, how could I have forgotten the masterpiece "Son of Ali Baba". "The Black Shield of Falworth" was equally brilliant.

I have no idea who the actor was...........but.......in the series "I Claudius" (ok it was a fair time ago), Caligula had been killed and Claudius was hiding behind some curtains.
Enter members of the Praetorian Guard, one of whom opens curtains and in a strong Cockey accent exclaims something like:-

"Cor look, it's ol' Uncle Claudius, innit"?

Lol Ray, I remember that one. I hope it wasn't Sir Patrick Stewart in his early days.

Totally agree about Sean Connery, you have to be careful who you say that too though, people get awfully defensive...

Before I write anything else, ScrumpyT, I love your Spiderman dance. OK, there have been many miscastings in Stephen King movies. David Soul in 'Salem's Lot. The character was supposed to have coarse black hair that looked oily evem when it was freshly washed while David is blonde. He was supposed to drive a citroen, but drove a jeep. In the Shining what a surprise that Jack Nicholson's character went looney...Best casting? Gary Sinese and John Malcovich in "Of Mice and Men".
