What was the weirdest college (or high school) class you ever took? You can define "weird" however you choose.

The strangest class I ever took was an "Old English" course I took for Literature. We spent the entire semester talking in Old English, learning the Old English words for modern words, and dissecting Old English texts. I look back now and think "What?!"

The strangest class I ever took was Humanitites. We spent an entire semester examining the book "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance". The next semester we examined song lyrics. It was just strange.

I think the strangest class I took was Asian Humanities. I call it strange because I have no interest in asian anything other than the local Chinese take-out. Another strange one was Electronics. I was the only female in it, which I loved but it wasn't well taught. I learned more about electronics in the weeklong intro at the computer assembly plant I worked at.

I took a class called Sex and Pregnancy because i thought it would be easy. There was so much technical information to be learned it ended up being one of the most demanding classes I ever took. There were also graphic films we had to watch which was weird because they were basically clinical xrated movies.

The strangest class I ever took was a class called "Turning Business Ideas into Realities". I didn't learn anything!

The strangest classes I've ever taken were two (at different year levels) called "Sense, Sociation and Situation". They were strange because they just didn't make any sense. The prof could have made up any crap he wanted and said it, and I'm convinced that's what he did half the time. He himself even told us that the material would be a lot clearer if we were drunk or otherwise not sober.

When I was in seminary I took a class called 'What Anglicans believe". There were 14 students, one prof, and 15 different versions of what Anglicans believe!

In my senior year in college, with most of my credits out of the way, I enrolled in a non-credit horticulture course just for fun. The instructor was a retired professor who was offering this course to members of the academic community, so my classmates included professors' wives, staff members, a maintenance guy who was hoping to get a job on the landscaping crew -- you name it.

My intention was to learn to grow lovely plants and flowers, something at which I've always been very bad. In fact, I learned massive amounts of information about the theory and science of plants and planting, but at growing things, I was a spectacular failure. When the professor, wandering through the greenhouse to inspect some of our practicum efforts, got to my decidedly non-flourishing and utterly pitiful petunia project, he burst out laughing and said, "WHAT did you do to them?"

I still don't know.

Was "how to prepare for FDA inspections" - was lengthy, but oh so necessary. Those FDA inspectors are a breed apart and very tricky indeed.

My strangest class was "The Works of Thomas Hardy" for Lit.
The professor was about 100 years old and obsessed with Hardy's heroine's sexuality. Ugh!

Business Machines. A class to learn about machines utilized in the work force. Sounds promising, right? The only problem was the machines were outdated. At least we learned the basic concepts. A very loud class...rather like typing class.

Lettice, I had a high school English teacher who was hung up on sexuality in Hardy. It IS an issue, but perhaps not quite to the extent that we had to hear about it.

My husband reminds me that he took a college course called "Self-Knowledge and Together-Awareness" at a very reputable university. He can't really explain exactly what this course was supposed to be about. However, he tells me that one day, he got sick of the discussion, crawled into a large box that had been left in a corner of the classroom, and remained there for the rest of the session. The professor later praised him for his "creative silent participation in the interactive process."

This incident, not surprisingly, took place in the mid- 70's.

talentedone, I had to take that Business Mach. class too. It was required for girls in our high school. It was without a doubt the worst class I ever took. The teacher was about 100 years old and so was most of the equipment. I have never in my life used any of the skills I learned there, but if I ever need to know how to use a dicaphone or how to line up carbon paper I'm sure I will be greatful for that year of my life.

theresam55 - well, I have used a dictaphone. Not a habit I wish to start.

I remember the days of carbon paper, non-electric typewriters, and having to make 6 copies (before copiers). Horrible if you had a problem with being accurate. Your fingers had a real workout.

Thank you progress.

"The Evolution of Denim". It was either that, or Home Ec. I made my very own denim skirt, which I still have. It has hand embroidered daisies, patches and a peace sign. I made it in the '80s, not the '60s. It's REALLY pretty ;)

I'm not sure about the weirdest class I did take, but the weirdest class I started taking and ended up dropping was History of Christianity. I ended up droping it because the professor said that Christianity has abosolutely nothing to do with Jesus Christ or the Bible. I had a headache after than and had to leave the class because I was convinced the professor was insane *lol*.
