I like to write proses. My favorite form of art is working with clay to make beautiful pottery! Reply #1. Oct 28 12, 4:06 PM |

My favorite form of visual art is painting, and I've been fortunate enough to see some of the world's great art treasures, but my absolute favorite painting is hanging right here in the USA (in the Smithsonian National Art Gallery.) It's Renoir's "Girl with a Watering Can."If it ever goes missing, you know where to look! Reply #2. Oct 28 12, 5:48 PM |

I like Baroque and Renaissance, but like many others I'm sure, my favorite artist is Salvador Dali. Crazy, crazy man, but he knew how to paint. Other than that, I don't care for pretty much anything painted after the year 1900 :) Reply #3. Nov 15 12, 5:22 PM |

I love the description of the library and wish I could see it. I hope you get to visit Florence and David, Kaddarsgirl. :) All my favourite pieces of art have been things I have seen with my own eyes. Makes a difference to the appreciation, doesn't it? My favourite art is Surimono, a rich style of Japanese woodblock printing where each colour, texture or shading is layered onto the print using a separate handcarved woodblock. It has made me go weak at the knees sometimes. Seeing it close up makes a difference - there are different intricate textures effectively embossed on the paper, and an iridescence in the colours, that you just can't get by seeing a copy of it in a book. My pet favourite is kept in the Chesterbeatty Library in Dublin but is rarely shown because it's easily damaged by light. I've been lucky enough to see it twice and just have to hope they will exhibit it again soon. Chesterbeatty Library site: http://www.cbl.ie/ - a small museum/gallery hidden behind Dublin Castle - a treasure trove. http://www.ukiyoe-gallery.com/flw.htm - Frank Lloyd Wright and his love affair with Japanese Woodblocks & Surimono.
