When a new editor takes on the role, are they thrown in at the deep end with full quiz editing or do they start with single questions and work their way up?

I suppose I should expand on that a bit.

Single questions aren't any easier to edit - the editor still has to understand and look for all relevant issues.

And with a full quiz there is a much better sense of the author - it's easier to catch plagiarism because you get real chance to "hear" the author's "voice", it's easier to see how much work they've put into it, and how much encouragement they need.

Full quizzes take longer, but aren't any more of a "deep end" than single questions.

The bulk of editing on the site is full quizzes and, while every editor who trains a newbie has their own way of going about it, it only makes sense to hop into different templates in different states to get a gauge for the types of things to expect.

Not everyone makes the same errors. Some forget quotation marks, some have typos, some submit restricted questions, some plagiarise, etc., etc.

Single questions are, perhaps, harder to gauge since editors can much-more-easily reject questions on the basis that we've seen them way, way too many times. New editors will need to cut their teeth a bit more to know these issues. Further, both queues deal with acceptances and rejections differently.

Frankly, I'm very impressed with each of the editors I've had because they saved me from some Big Mistakes and generally helped the quiz to its feet. Each one has been tactful and encouraging.

I wonder sometimes how editors stay sane...I have dealt with all the editors at one time or another and all have been very helpful...they have helped me to write about topics I was not familiar with...I thank all of you for making this site so much fun:)

Yes, my experience with editors has been very rewarding. They know their stuff, and some will take a great deal of time to help you when you are struggling. Thanks to all of you for your excellent work!

My quiz is always higher quality once an Editor makes a suggestion or asks for a change. It's the encouraging shove I need, and they provide great insights. We'd be a VERY um...interesting... site without them, lol.
