It's really too hard to pick just one or even ten! Our family loved The Inbetweeners and we're hoping more episodes are shown soon. Reply #2. Dec 20 10, 1:16 AM |

My favourite all time British comedy has to be Are you Being Served. Even though it was set in the seventies it was way ahead of its time. Reply #6. Jan 02 11, 4:24 PM |

Black Books, sheer surreal genius: Rab C Nesbitt (original episodes, not the ones made recently): Please Sir! (remade in America as "Welcome Back Kotter"), and Coupling, about the changing relationships of a group of dysfunctional twenty-somethings. Reply #10. Jan 02 11, 6:57 PM |

Gosh, there are so many to choose from and your topic is a very broad one (i.e. you haven't limited it to comedies). In no particular order - Keeping Up Appearances, Fawlty Towers, Doc Martin, Blackadder, the David Suchet/Hercule Poirot series, Goodnight Sweetheart, New Tricks, the Mrs Bradley Mysteries - are just a few that come to mind. One of the funniest series ever, and very under-rated, was Rowan Atkinson and Ben Elton's "The Thin Blue Line". I don't know why it wasn't more popular; they only made two seasons/14 epidodes. I have the DVD set and I find it hysterically funny. Reply #13. Jan 02 11, 7:38 PM |

I hadn't realised till just now that "Welcome Back Kotter" was a remake of "Please Sir!" so I went investigating. Here are two five-minute clips from Please Sir! and one ten-minute clip from Welcome Back Kotter. I'd always thought of Please Sir! as a comedy that brought tears to my eyes. Watching clips now, I realise that it had a very dark side too. "The early series of Miss Marple.. with Joan Hickson.. NOT Geraldine McEwan." I quite agree, Tizzabelle. Also add to my list (how could I have overlooked it) - Heartbeat. Reply #16. Jan 02 11, 7:57 PM |
