It's really too hard to pick just one or even ten! Our family loved The Inbetweeners and we're hoping more episodes are shown soon.

My favourite all time British comedy has to be Are you Being Served. Even though it was set in the seventies it was way ahead of its time.

Dr Who, Torchwood and Black Books. Shameless used to be good but I do not like it now.

Black Books, sheer surreal genius: Rab C Nesbitt (original episodes, not the ones made recently): Please Sir! (remade in America as "Welcome Back Kotter"), and Coupling, about the changing relationships of a group of dysfunctional twenty-somethings.

Gosh, there are so many to choose from and your topic is a very broad one (i.e. you haven't limited it to comedies).

In no particular order - Keeping Up Appearances, Fawlty Towers, Doc Martin, Blackadder, the David Suchet/Hercule Poirot series, Goodnight Sweetheart, New Tricks, the Mrs Bradley Mysteries - are just a few that come to mind.

One of the funniest series ever, and very under-rated, was Rowan Atkinson and Ben Elton's "The Thin Blue Line". I don't know why it wasn't more popular; they only made two seasons/14 epidodes. I have the DVD set and I find it hysterically funny.

I hadn't realised till just now that "Welcome Back Kotter" was a remake of "Please Sir!" so I went investigating.

Here are two five-minute clips from Please Sir! and one ten-minute clip from Welcome Back Kotter. I'd always thought of Please Sir! as a comedy that brought tears to my eyes. Watching clips now, I realise that it had a very dark side too.

"Please Sir! 1970 - Dennis`s Abusive Dad"

"Please Sir! 1971 - Eric Confronts Dix"

"Welcome Back Kotter - The Sweathog Debate Team" from "The Great Debate" episode (1975)

I quite agree, Tizzabelle.

Also add to my list (how could I have overlooked it) - Heartbeat.

Oops, I got my threads mixed up - I meant Tezza, not Tizzabelle. (I've just replied to Tizzabelle on another topic). Sorry about that Tezza!

British tv shows are the best! I've always loved Monty Python, Mr. Bean, Fawlty Towers, Benny Hill & Dr. Who.

Just saw Mother Goose's post above & I agree with her about "The Thin Blue Line". That was a really good show & I forgot to mention it.
