I recently watched a few episodes of "Please Sir!" which used to have me weeping with laughter 40 years ago, and I did wonder if it would be as funny now. It's actually better than I remember it. It's still funny, the acting was spot on, and it had dark places I'd forgotten about. It touched on difficult subjects, like abusive parents and bullying teachers, sensitively, without alienating its audience. Thanks to FT, I now know that it was remade as Welcome back Kotter, but the American version was heavily sanitised and I didn't enjoy it anywhere near as much. Reply #1. Jan 12 12, 6:25 AM |

I used to just love "Bonanza" the first show we had in living color. t's too bad that thanks to technology I can see every special effect and camera cut. The stories hold up, for the most part, but it's not as all engrossing as before. If you ever enjoyed Johnny Weissmuller as "Tarzen of the Apes" the old B & W reruns are hard to stomach also, especially enlarging the ears on the elephants so they appeared to be African elephants. No CG in those days, they were paste on ears! Reply #2. Jan 13 12, 3:02 AM |

When we see the shows now we are looking through grown up or more cynical eyes so they are never the same. I have been watching a few episodes of the re-run of The Saint with Roger Moore on UK TV. The only difference now is I haven't got the couple of beers that made it look OK first time around. Reply #3. Feb 29 12, 9:21 PM |

A lot of the comedy shows that I grew up with still make me laugh a whole lot, but I have seen them so much that I can usually say the line before they do. Reply #4. Mar 05 12, 7:01 AM |

Would never miss an episode of Batman when I was a kid. Now when I see it, I wonder what the producers and directors were thinking. Reply #5. Mar 07 12, 10:42 AM |
