You aren't missing much. She competed in a programme to find pop singers who would make a girl group or boy "band" and she was one of the winners. The winning boys faded without trace, but the girl group has been very successful and she, perhaps thanks to some very good stylists, and definitely thanks to an adulterous husband, has become the best-known face of all. She's a judge one of Simon Cowell's "what talent?" shows, there are a couple of magazines called Cheryl, and she's doing shampoo adverts now, showing off her shiny, healthy hair extensions. Bob - definitely over-exposed. Reply #2. Dec 22 10, 10:07 AM |

And like Lesley says, you haven't missed much, but here in the UK gets a lot of publicity for not doing much and not being very good at not much else. Reply #4. Dec 22 10, 12:56 PM |

Aren't we exporting her to the US for their version of X-factor? I was very surprised about that, as pretty girls with good stylists and OK voices must be plentiful over there. Hopefully Cherylmania will die down a bit now, the press have built her up so she's due to be knocked down again shortly. I've nothing against her but the shampoo ad really got me - all those hair extensions and they're still OK to use her? And people buy into that? Reply #5. Dec 22 10, 1:05 PM |

Ok to help all those who have never heard of her... Cheryl Ann Cole (née Tweedy; born June 30, 1983 in Newcastle upon Tyne A member of girl group Girls Aloud who enjoyed twenty consecutive top ten singles (including four number ones) in the UK She has been a judge on the X factor program since 2008 Now regarded as a style icon she can be seen regularly on the front covers of Vogue, Harpers Bazaar and is the face of L’Oreal. She does not sit all day languishing on tax payers money as many of the people she grew up with in poverty on a northern council estate. Think for her age she has done ok? Reply #6. I'm not sure that growing up in poverty automatically leads to languishing on taxpayers' money, but I do think she's done very well- for any age. Unfortunately she's gone past the "make hay while the sun shines" phase, and fallen into the trap of over-exposure. The fact that she has had enormous success doesn't mean that we need to see her every time we turn the TV on, buy a newspaper, look at cosmetics, or go online. Reply #7. Dec 22 10, 1:55 PM |

Thanks Lesley! I wasn't sure who she was. She must be big in the UK, but here in America I doubt if many people know who she is. She sounds like the type of celebrity that I try to avoid at all costs! :) Reply #8. Dec 22 10, 10:41 PM |

I've never heard or seen Cheryl Cole but I'm surmising that the Canadian equivalent is Justin Bieber! Reply #10. Dec 29 10, 11:32 AM |

I'm definitely sick of her! How they can have her judging people in a singing competition and then let her mime along to a recorded track instead of singing live is beyond me! Cymru - the comparison to Bieber is pretty accurate, I'd guess. He's overexposed enough here in Scotland! :P Reply #11. Dec 29 10, 7:43 PM |

I've never heard of her but I just watched a few seconds of one of her videos on Youtube and have absolutely no interest in hearing anything else by Cheryl Cole. Reply #13. Jan 16 11, 2:19 PM |
