I totally appreciated what he did through the years, and at the same time I was not a fan of his, ever. Reply #1. Aug 04 11, 4:35 PM |

I wasn't a fan of his performances - I just don't like slapstick - but do admire his work for the group. Reply #3. Aug 04 11, 7:12 PM |

http://news.yahoo.com/comedians-rally-support-jerry-lewis-002022991.html Jerry is an outspoken man. Good for him. I remember working the telethon and overhearing someone say "what's the big deal". Jerry explained it to him. Reply #4. Aug 06 11, 7:57 AM |

Aha - this is the first time I've seen that he didn't pull out; he was discarded. What on earth could he have said that they would have disapproved of? Sounds like the adolescent family that disowns you when you talk to strangers. Is there any possibility that the MDA people did it for publicity? Reply #5. Aug 06 11, 8:21 AM |

Well, as I said, Jerry is outspoken. He made comments about reality shows and the fact he believes great movies should not be put on iphones or ipads. Basically, he remembers how people once hurried home to watch quality television (the short version 'tv' is not used in his home). Now, people hurry home and hope something is on television which is worth watching. I would post some of his comments, but he says what he wants and I don't want the nanny filter beating the daylights out of me. Jerry actually stood up to a reporter the other day. When asked about what happened between him and MDA, Jerry told the reporter "It's none of your business". While slap-stick may not be the choice of many, I do love his tenacity in the real world. I found some "nanny allowed" comments.... "There is no doubt that television has changed since comedian Jerry Lewis’ heyday, but does he really hate reality television? You betcha! Jerry Lewis claims he is a fan of television, but not so much of reality television as he said: “I don’t allow people in my family to use the term ‘TV.’ It’s ‘television,’ it’s a miracle, and deserves respect.” “This business is scrounging around for what to do. The medium is busy knocking its brand out to display the fat lady at 375 pounds (who) in two months is gonna be 240. Who gives a s**t?" (I changed it so nanny would allow) and then he went on with his rant adding: “The industry has destroyed itself. We don’t have the soul in our industry that we had when I was working in it. The soul has been desperately deteriorating [in] it, only because you’ve got a guy running a network whose aunt died and left him some stock.” As I said, he speaks his mind. Reply #7. So he's not allowed to express his opinion of reality programmes, and ipads, in public? That's taking commercial sensitivity to new levels. I like the idea of being able to say exactly what I think, without censorship from interested parties, and telling reporters where they can put their notepads! Reply #8. Aug 06 11, 8:45 AM |

Thank you, I've been reading the "nanny allowed" comments. Is he not right? I think he is! Reply #9. Aug 06 11, 8:47 AM |

The 85 year old will have a few comments, after the MDA Telethon. It will be interesting to hear what he says It is way past time for someone else to take the reins. The telethon is too much wear and tear on the mind and body of a man his age. Reply #10. Aug 06 11, 9:18 AM |

That's a thought. Keeping chirpy for six hours, while everyone's watching you, would be stressful for anyone, and it could get harder with every year. Not something we would want to admit to, though. Reply #11. Aug 06 11, 9:33 AM |

Plus, in addition to being the 'lead', he is also involved in what is going on back stage. For example, ensuring phones have enough people to answer them and so on. Reply #12. Aug 06 11, 2:00 PM |
