I had embroidered simple designs on pillow cases, table cloth, letter carrier, table napkins when I was in elementary school and high school. I appreciate hand-/machine-embroidered crafts/arts and cross-stiched items/arts but it takes so long to finish embroidery/cross-stich design and my sister was concerned that my vision will get worse if I continue cross-stitching/embroidery work. I do embroider. Mostly I do counted cross stitch. If you want to check out a beautiful form of embroidery - check out "chicken scratch" or teneriffe embroidery. I have an extensive collection of all kinds of embroidery patterns. Reply #6. Nov 07 09, 10:53 PM |

I haven't done anything lately, but I have some crewel flower pictures that I have in one of the bedrooms and years ago I embroidered an Irish Dance Solo dress for my daughter. It took months but turned out beautifully. Reply #7. Nov 08 09, 9:31 AM |

I'd like to learn the craft. I had a dress decorated with a wonderful springtime pattern in embroidery, which my mom made for me. She has discovered that embroidering with ribbon is easier for her hands. Reply #8. Dec 29 09, 9:28 PM |

I've been doing Xstitch embroidery by hand for 40 plus years. Anyone beat that? Reply #9. Jan 16 10, 10:19 AM |

I've never tried it and somehow I have a feeling I won't. It's impressive tho, how good some are at it. Reply #10. Jan 16 10, 10:56 AM |

Seriously Kaye - yes. When I was in high school, my first job was in a local department store. All my friends were stationed on the main floor and I was on the fourth floor in the art and needlework department. When it wasn't busy, they had to keep busy doing all sorts of stuff. But I could embroider and I was demonstrating the craft for customers. The ladies taught me counted cross stitch, stamped cross stitch, latch hook, needlepoint but I drew the line at knitting and crocheting. I now add quilting and teneriffe embroidery to the repertoire. I have done both hand and machine embroidery; however, I find doing it by hand to be more enjoyable. Hand embroidery lets you leave the project with a sense of accomplishment, whereas, the machine embroidery makes me feel sort of lazy. No offense to anyone who prefers doing it by hand. I make all sorts of things, but have vowed to cross stitch a birth record, quilt, and bibs for each and every one of my nieces and nephews to show them just how much I love them. Reply #15. Actually, I forgot to mention previously, I have been cross stitching since I was a little girl, about five years old. I remember sitting around doing this with my mother, a hobby we still share and take part in together. Reply #16. Jan 20 10, 11:04 PM |

I guess I am a purist cause I don't consider machine embroidery as real embroidery. But I suppose if you want quick results, then machine is the way to go. Reply #17. Jan 22 10, 5:56 PM |

I used to embroider, but now I don't have the time. I have a table runner still waiting to be finished. One Day Reply #18. Jan 25 10, 7:51 PM |
