All my summer vacations were spent at Astroworld in Houston, Texas, except a couple of years when I went to girl scout camp. Reply #1. May 26 10, 10:02 PM |

Camping with my husband and two sons every summer - different locales around our beautiful province, but always near water so that the boys could canoe. Camping near water isn't difficult, we have over 100,000 lakes and a great many rivera, and if you go far enough north you're standing on the shore of Hudson's Bay. Reply #2. May 27 10, 12:06 AM |

When I qwent hiking on the ApalatianTrail in the Great Smokey Mountain National Park in 2007. We hiked for 7 and a half miles down the mountain and camped out in tents. It was about 50 degrees and we had foil blankets to keep us warm. We hanged our bags on cables so the bearswouldn't eat the food. The next day we hiked the same 7 and half miles up the mountain and it was easier this time. At the end of the hike, we got caught in a rain storm. We spent the night in a hotel and went back to our friend's house in TN the next day. I would like to go back again. Reply #3. May 27 10, 12:52 PM |

Got to go on a cruise in the Caribbean 8 years ago, thanks to my brother and his wife, that was fun! Thankfully the ocean was tame during our cruise, no big waves. Reply #4. May 31 10, 9:57 PM |

Six weeks in an old 4WD, driving around the Goldfields region of Western Australia, stopping at ghost towns, a bit of prospecting, spent a night in a supposedly haunted hut, camped at a place called Niagara Dam, catching freshwater crayfish there. Did some wandering sround abandoned cemeteries - fascinating.. almost all the graves (mostly dating back to late 1800s and early 1900s) were children under 5 and young men aged under 40. The children died of disease.. diphtheria, whooping cough etc, and the adults died in mining accidents. Would go back there tomorrow. Reply #7. Jun 26 10, 11:10 PM |

I went on safari to Tanzania in summer 2008. It was very action packed - we camped in the Serengeti, and in Ngorogoro Crater, where an elephant actually walked inbetween our tents during the night! We also saw Olduvai Gorge, where the first hominid was found, and visited two villages, one of which was a Maasai village, where we saw the Maasai chanting and jumping and we were lucky enough to be shown inside some of their houses. We also helped out at an orphanage for a while and gave supplies to a school. I was very glad to be given the last three days in a lovely marine hotel - I don't normally like beaches much, but I needed the relaxation! I'm going to Thailand to volunteer with elephants and monkeys next year or the year after, but I don't know if it will ever top Tanzania! Reply #8. Jun 28 10, 9:49 AM |

Camping, driving from Tennessee to the Grand Canyon and back. Camping, driving from Virginia to Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons and back. Wonderful what you see when you get off the main highways. Interesting that I have not been to the Grand Canyon since I moved to Arizona. Reply #10. Sep 23 10, 11:13 PM |

Since I may only choose one, it would have to be getting hugs from stingrays in the Cayman Islands. Alexx: your Tanzania experience sounds thrilling! Reply #11. Sep 24 10, 10:10 AM |

My favorite was going with my son and his high school choir to Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic. We sang a concert in an old church in Lintz Austria. Beautiful countries great times. Probably the most unusual was last March with my church on a mission trip to Durban South Africa. We helped paint and fix up a house that was being used as a church. We visited a few other churches and got to meet many of the people that we were helping and see how our church's donations have helped them be able to help the people in need. I felt very welcome in that country the people were really great! A beautiful experience. Reply #12. Jan 27 11, 10:38 PM |

I went on a roadtrip with four of my friends. We crossed the sea on a ship, arrived at Helsinki and headed North, through Norway, all the way to the Arctic Ocean. We went there in the middle of the summer, so we got to see the midnight Sun. The mountains were impressive and the temperature could turn from freeeeeezing to hot. I'd never seen snow in July. And the trees! I never would have guessed on my own that these knee-high shrubs were birches. It was good fun and took about a week. Reply #15. Mar 17 11, 12:12 PM |

A ten day cultural immersion trip to China, a different world to our Western one, but one well worth exploring. Avoid the Great Wall though, more crowded than Trafalgar Square when the clubs close. Reply #16. Mar 21 11, 12:08 PM |

My favourite vacation has been on the island of Crete. Since it was in September, the heat was not unsufferable. Crete is strikingly beautiful, and it has a rich history so there is a lot to see. I have to go back some day. Reply #18. Mar 23 11, 6:57 AM |
