I think you need to put some sauce on it, or fill it with something to make it tasty. On its own, most pasta has little flavour, rather like eating plain boiled rice. Good thing you are not Italian, RMG. Do you remember this classic duet between Peter Sellars and Sophia Loren? 'PETER: I met 'er down in Napoli and didn't she look great And so I brought 'er back to Blighty just to show me mates And though we're married 'appily, I'll tell ya furthermore I 'aven't 'ad a decent meal since Nineteen-Forty-Four SL: Eat your minestrone, Joe PS: That's all you ever say SL: Eat your macaroni, Joe PS: Ev'ry blinkin' day SL: No wonder you're so boney, Joe, and skinny as a rake PS: Well then, give us a bash at the bangers and mash me Muvver used to make PS: Bangers and mash SL: Minestrone PS: Bangers and mash SL: Macaroni PS: Give us a bash at the bangers and mash me Muvver used to make SL: Eat your tagliatelli, Joe PS: That's all I've 'eard for years SL: Eat your vermicelli, Joe PS: It's comin' out me ears SL: You've got to fill your belly, Joe; Joe, for heaven's sake PS: Well then, give us a bash at the bangers and mash me Muvver used to make' Reply #1. We use whole grain or vegetable pasta. The vegetable pasta is made with pureed tomatoes, squash, carrots, zucchini or spinach (not all together though). Our family tried different brands of pasta and some were so tasteless, the only option was creating an amazing sauce or throwing it out. Plain white rice? Ick! Brown rice has more flavor and is better for you. Reply #2. Jan 03 13, 6:46 AM |

I eat pasta almost every day. Cream sauces, tomato sauces, garlic and oil, or just a bit of butter.... YUM! In the summer, pasta salads make wonderful cold dinners. I detest rice in any form, and can barely tolerate potatoes. To each his own :-D Reply #3. Jan 03 13, 8:13 AM |

I eat pasta a lot considering Im Italian. Eat pasta made in Italy, salt the water a lot (should almost be like sea water) and DONT cook it to death. Over cooking makes it slimy and just nasty. I cook it til almost al dente then finish it off in some of the sauce. It will absorb the flavors of the sauce. Or maybe gnocci maybe more your bag. Ita a pasta/ dumpling made from potatoes. That is really good. Reply #4. Jan 03 13, 8:18 AM |

I like pasta as a warm dinner dish because you can do so much with it. I don't like pasta salads though. Cold pasta never really appealed to me. Reply #5. Jan 03 13, 8:56 AM |

I'm almost with Bob - I can eat it, but I'd rather not, unless it's drenched in a creamy sauce. Pasta salad has no appeal. I'd much rather eat rice (either colour) or potatoes. If I eat pasta I find myself craving something sweet afterwards, so what with the creamy sauce and the sweet desert it's not really that good for me! Reply #7. Jan 06 13, 3:42 PM |

While my children were growing up, I made pasta once a week. They loved it with tomato suace and mushrooms. Now that they are grown, we eat it once a month. Reply #8. Jan 06 13, 4:59 PM |

We love baked rigatoni. You can use hamburger with it but here is a recipe with sausage. It is delicious. BAKED RIGATONI AND SAUSAGE 1 lb. sweet Italian sausage 1/2 c. chopped onion 1 clove garlic, minced 3 c. uncooked rigatoni 1 c. ricotta cheese 3 1/2 c. spaghetti sauce 2 c. mozzarella cheese 3 tbsp. grated Parmesan Saute sausage in skillet until well browned on all sides. Remove from pan and slice into thin pieces. Return to pan and add onion, garlic, sauteing until onion is tender. Cook rigatoni according to package directions; drain. Combine rigatoni, sausage and ricotta; mix well. Layer sauce, rigatoni, mozzarella and Parmesan in baking dish. Bake at 400 degrees for 20-30 minutes. Reply #12. Jan 06 13, 5:30 PM |

I love pasta! I have it once or twice a week for lunch usually with some butter or olive oil and some parsley and garlic. I don't like red sauces very much but I'm very much a cream sauce fan. Reply #14. Jan 06 13, 7:20 PM |

I eat wholemeal pasta, which has more flavour than white pasta, and holds its shape and texture better. I've cooked it for people who wouldn't have thought of buying it, but like it when they've tried it. Some of them are even converted - most notably an Italian woman with a cooking qualification. Favourites: - fusilli with a tomato and olive sauce; - spaghetti with a classic pesto - basil, sometimes coriander, and no cashew nuts; - a veggie variation on carbonara, with mushroom replacing the bacon. honeybee4, your recipe sounds delicious but that's down to the other ingredients, rather than the pasta itself! Reply #16. Jan 07 13, 6:09 AM |

I like pasta because you can do anything with it. We have a restaurant here called "Rasta Pasta". They do pasta with a twist. Ravioli in marinara with jerk chicken is one of my favorites. Reply #17. Jan 07 13, 9:47 AM |

The best thing you can do with pasta is throw it away. All it is is flour and water. Reply #18. Jan 07 13, 10:17 AM |

I'm even happy just eating it cold (already cooked, refrigerated left-overs). My family loves Italian food, having it several times a week, and pasta is a staple! Reply #19. Jan 07 13, 10:50 AM |

I find pasta (with sauce) to be one of the great pleasures of eating. I can't imagine not having it a couple times a week. But to each his own... Reply #20. Jan 07 13, 11:02 AM |
