Should Chris Benoit be put into the WWE Hall Of Fame?
I'm not asking anyone to forgive Benoit i'm just asking if you feel he had done enough in his career to earn it or if he made too many bad decisions

You don't put murderers into the Hall of Fame. Unfortunately OJ got aquitted otherwise they should boot him out of the NFL hall.

I don't think Benoit should be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. I agree that he was a great superstar in terms of his in ring ability and all the great matches he put on over the years but in my mind you don't honour a child murderer.

It would be like saying you were a great wrestler so we will just choose to ignore the fact you murdered your wife and child. Would whomever accepted the award on his behalf say something like "Chris was a great guy, when he wasn't killing perople".

There is no way Vince McMahon would have him inducted anyway because can you imagine the bad press WWE would get. I can see the headlines now "WWE celebrates child murderer" or "WWE sinks to new low" etc.

It's shame that a guy who would have been a lock on for the Hall of Fame will never get close to it now.

Then there's the opposite argument from Cris Collinsworth, who feels like Pat Tillman should be inducted in the Pro Football Hall of Fame because he eschewed a playing career in the NFL and died in service to his country.

Here's my take on it: Membership in a sports hall of fame should be based on what a man or woman does in the arena, on the field, on the track, and not on the things he does on the outside. If you can't put Tillman in for being a great patriot (even though he wouldn't get in on his brief body of work), you can't exclude Benoit for being a cowardly murderer/suicidest (despite the fact that his body of work is worthy).

You certainly could put Tillman in the hall for his off the field efforts. Some coaches, broadcasters, maybe others are in various halls for their contributions while not on the field. OJ should be in the hall with an asterisk. He was already in the hall before killing those people. James Worthy cheated on his wife many times. His wife said he should be in the NBA hall for his basketball.
However, I would not put Benoit in the hall if he is not already there. Just my opinion.

Go ahead and put Benoit in the hall. Why not? William Perry and Pete Rose are already in, so we all know that the WWE Hall of Fame is ludicrous.

I do not believe Pete Rose is in the baseball Hall of Fame.

I think he should be put into the Hall of Fame. Not only did he have a long career but he also was one of the best wrestlers. His wrestling ability was as good as anyones. He one many different title belts as well. Yes, him commiting suicide and killing his family was bad, but that doesn't take away from what he did in the ring. If he doesn't get in, no one should. He is still one of my favorite wrestlers.

Just because he did some stupid stuff doesn't mean he should be punished for it. He worked like crazy in WWE, we should be honored for it.

fairchild you said the following - "Just because he did some stupid stuff doesn't mean he should be punished for it."

Firstly i would say stupid stuff is cheating on your wife or taking drugs or drinking and then driving. Murdering a woman and a child is alot more serious than "stupid stuff".

The bottom line is if he didnt kill himself then he certainly would have been punished for it as he would have been put in jail with all the other murderers for a long time. So would we have been inducting him to the HoF via a live feed from his prison cell?

At the end of the day it's WWE's call who they induct into the WWE Hall of Fame and i am 99.9% sure Benoit will never be inducted. A decision which i support McMahon on. I agree that he shouldnt be wiped from WWE history, for example removing his name from title histories and Royal Rumble winner history is going too far because he still did play a big role in WWE history.

Also you said - "He worked like crazy in WWE, we should be honored for it"

That's a bit like saying somebody who abused children for 10 years but does a great job running a charity foundation for 10 years should still be honoured for doing a good job in their profession and just discount abusing children. Some things can't just be ignored.

Well, if Savage isn't in, then Benoit will never get in.

I think Benoit SHOULD get in. Yeah, killing people is bad, but the Hall of Fame for ANYTHING is about what they did in their career. I mean, Bret got in, and he and Vince fought for almost 10 years. In my opinion, Benoit should be in for his career. I can't forgive him for killing his wife and son, but his career should speak for itself, not what he did afterwards.

"but his career should speak for itself, not what he did afterwards."

He was in the middle of his career peak when he did what he did.

William Perry's not in the Pro Football Hall of Fame...He was a good player and a bit of a novelty, but his numbers don't support putting him in Canton.

If Pat Tillman were to go into the Hall, though, Joe Delaney needs to go in too. Not only did Delaney give his life trying to save others, he did it on the spur of the moment, when no one else would act, and knowing full well that he could not swim himself. Delaney is actually in the College Football Hall of Fame, but he's not enshrined in Canton. If you don't know who Joe Delaney is, or about his story, here's a link to check out:

No matter how many years go by, the Chris Benoit murders will always be a blacknote in wrestling history, there is no place for murderers. Going into the Hall of Fame would turn him into a martyr.

Turn him into a martyr? Isn't that slightly hyperbolic? It isn't as if the WWE Hall of Fame is that important.

I think he should be, he was probably one of my favourite wrestlers during the time he was in wwe, and yes I know what he did afterwards.

Benoit was definitely one of the best technical wrestlers in history, but his personal actions against his own family were unforgivable. He doesn't deserve to be in the Hall of Fame.
