I agree with you on Luna (my idea of her is much more different) and Fleur. This girl is pretty, but real Fleur was supposed to be charming. I didn´t like Gambon as Dumbledore first, but I started to like him in HP and HBP. What´s wrong with Lily? Reply #2. Jul 28 09, 2:28 PM |

I wanted to comment that I think they did a fantastic job of casting Frank Dillane as the high school Voldemort. I was not a fan of Christian Coulson in "Chamber of Secrets" - he seemed far too soft to me to be Voldemort, especially by high school. Frank oozed about as much evil as Voldemort could at 16. I think Hero Fiennes-Tiffin did a decent job. He had the look right but they didn't give him much of a chance to show any depth of character. -Elizabeth Reply #3. Jul 28 09, 3:03 PM |

Lily? Oh..well, she does play well, it's just that I imagined her soooo differently in the books that it just didn't seem right, but she plays alright, I suppose. Reply #4. Jul 28 09, 5:44 PM |

I had a much different picture of Umbridge in my mind. Doesn't JK describe her as looking like a toad in the book, yet in the movie, she looks like a regular old grandmother. I agree, Riddle was well-cast in HBP. Reply #5. Jul 29 09, 7:19 PM |

Umbridge was really different in appearance from JKR´s books, but I think the actress played her in an excellent way - I really hated her amd she reminded me some teachers I was so unlucky to know. I wonder what you think of Helen Bonham Carter as Bellatrix - I had a very different idea, someone like the actress playing the White Witch in Narnia. Cold and cruel, but not so wild. Anabanana, why don´t you like Fudge? He presents a typical slimy cowardly polititian just like he was supposed to be in my opinion. Reply #6. Jul 29 09, 7:45 PM |

Fugde, I guess I really don't know! I get vey picky sometimes that I don't even agree with myself a few days later! I'd also like to say that Umbrige played EXCELLENT! They picked a great person to play her, though she was more 'toadlike' as Rowling used reopeatedly, in the book. Reply #7. Jul 30 09, 5:17 PM |

I don't know about anyone else but one casting decision I was not very pleased with was Lavender Brown... I always imagined her as less... exciteable and bubbly, more of one to stand on the sidelines and giggle with Parvati Patil... I didn't like the bolshy side to her character as portrayed in the HBP. I had always pictures Lavender Brown as afro-american (don't know why, really), so seeing the actress playing her in the movies really confused me. She was a good Lavender though, I think. As for Dumbledore I'm really sad that Richard Harris died, Gambon is not at all like Dumbledore. I mean the scene in GOF after the goblet has thrown out Harry's name and Dumbledore puts his hands on Harry's shoulders and demands to know if he put his name in the goblet? The book-Dumbledore would know that Harry never would do such a thing. Reply #9. Jul 31 09, 12:51 PM |

I didn't like either of the Dumbledores! I do like the girl playing Lavender, though. She plays her good, i think. Reply #11. Aug 01 09, 10:30 AM |

I am alone I fear is saying Ron and Harry were not perfectly cast -- while Snape is a wonderful role. Draco was totally underused until this latest film where he actually does get to show his stuff. Dave Reply #12. Aug 01 09, 2:52 PM |

I thought Draco was far less two dimensional this time round and he played the last scene with Dumbledore really well. I saw the first film before I read any of the books, so a lot of the characters are stuck in my mind because of that. However, I do think JK must have had Maggie Smith and Alan Rickman in mind for the roles when she invented the characters! I'd imagined Bellatrix as a much colder character but I love the way HBC plays her. Reply #13. Aug 01 09, 3:24 PM |

I agree Dave - not perfectly cast but I guess they're growing on me. Grint makes Ron seem a bit... gormless which whilst Ron isn't the brightest I never imagined him as wearing a constantly perplexed expression... Draco really does come into his own in the latest film - great acting and the young Riddle - wow - he was so believable. I think I quite like the way Bellatrix is played - I guess I did imagine her as a colder character but I actually like the almost girlish element brought to the screen-Bellatrix. Dumbledore... I don't know - I think a lot of the reasons I'm not convinced by the screen version is down to the directing and script not the actor/s himself. He just says stuff Dumbledore wouldn't say in my mind. That is one place where I think they should pay closer heed to the books. Reply #16. Aug 02 09, 1:09 PM |

I think the girl who plays Luna Lovegood is great. Her voice is very dreamy, just as itis described in the books. Reply #17. Dec 02 09, 10:07 AM |

I think that Flitwick was good in the first film, with grey hair, but i don't like the newer Flitwick at all, with the black hair. Also Dudley was good in the first film but not so good in the 5th. Reply #18. Dec 02 09, 10:09 AM |

Harry-yes Ron- He's okay in the later movies, but I don't think directors understand him at all. It's not so much the casting as the directing of his character, really. Hermione-yes Draco-yes Dumbledore-no (This new actor...he's okay in #6, but in #4 it was ridiculous. McGonagal-yes Snape-yes Lily-yes James-yes Sirius-Sure, though he's a bit too complex of a character to transition easily to film. Ginny-No. I don't think they get her at all. Weasely twins-yes Luna-Yes. Still not quite perfect, but as close as they could come, I think. Neville-No, and my main complaint is how Harry treats him. I can only think of one instance in the books where Harry is at all unkind to him (laughing with Ron after they both were turned down) but it happens several times in the movies. DUMB! Lucius-yes Hagrid-yes Fleur-Not quite pretty enough, IMHO. I mean, she's lovely, but Fleur is supposed to be utterly, dazzingly exquisite, and I didn't quite get that impression. Percy-yes Fudge-yes Young Voldemort—yes! Old Voldemort—yes! Lavender—sure, I guess. Highly caricatured, and not as pretty as I imagined, but sure. Reply #19. Dec 04 09, 2:05 PM |
