We wouldn't want anything to be hard now would we? Reply #1. Nov 12 11, 1:48 PM |

I am level 136 and I only get an occasional win, but that is how it should be. Reply #2. Nov 12 11, 1:50 PM |

hard yes, mathematically lopsided, not necessarily. As to what "should be," who's to say? Reply #3. Nov 12 11, 1:57 PM |

Who is to say what should be? I think it's far too easy for those on the lower levels to win categories. Reply #4. Nov 12 11, 2:06 PM |

would you relinquish, then, those victories you obtained while on those levels? Reply #5. Nov 12 11, 2:12 PM |

Some of us were never in those levels. Reply #6. Nov 12 11, 2:16 PM |

?! You may have never competed at a particular level, but you were AT every level, however briefly. As stated, the claim is mathematically impossible. Reply #7. Nov 12 11, 2:20 PM |

You may not be aware of this, but when the Expert Game started there were no levels; you played against everyone on the site. By winning a category, you proved you were the expert - not just the expert at your level. Reply #8. Nov 12 11, 2:20 PM |

The 76-200 division is much more populated in players than the others. Usually around twice as many. That bugs me a bit, but people who are good at the topic will win it eventually. Reply #9. Nov 12 11, 2:25 PM |

No, it is not mathematically impossible. You've just been spoiled by how easy it is to win at the lower levels. Reply #10. Nov 12 11, 2:25 PM |

I see. Still, there were probably fewer players then, and even fewer who had seen the same questions the same time. My only contention with the current division is that it lumps 124 levels together; that seems a tad excessive. Reply #11. Nov 12 11, 2:26 PM |

On the other hand, you weren't necessarily up against many players who have accumulated millions and millions of points going over the same ground again and again while relying on your own basic knowledge of a subject to compete. Reply #12. Nov 12 11, 2:27 PM |

Even if you win two badges a time, and gain two levels, the computer processes them one at a time, no? The level increments are discrete, even if if the increase takes place infinitesimally, and you are not necessarily aware of it. For the purposes of tournament competition, I guess it's irrelevant. The point is taken that in the past there were no "levels" altogether. I apologize; the possibility hadn't occurred to me. Reply #14. Nov 12 11, 2:50 PM |

Lola, I lament on a regular basis, generally quietly (but no always!,) that I didn't try to gain more expert wins when I was at a lower level. However! Every one of my very, very few expert wins have been hard fought and I feel I have earned them. I also jump up and down, literally, when I do win one. Part of the fun in trivia, at least for me, is playing and playing and playing some more against people who are obviously better players than I am, and trying to improve. Beating them at anything is just icing on the cake! Hey, beating anyone in here in an expert game is icing on the cake! Stick around awhile and you'll see what I mean, and develop your own strategy. There are a LOT more players/members now, but that's also the good news. If the site is growing, it's only going to get better. The question pools in all tourneys are so much deeper now, and personally, I really like that. Reply #15. Nov 14 11, 2:52 AM |

Lola! One more thing! You made it to level 76 in only two months? That's amazing! It took me YEARS! Keep playing, and consider writing and submitting quizzes/individual questions, if you haven't, so you are also adding to that deeper question pool. And do stick around, and keep asking questions and offering suggestions. I definitely appreciate them! ~Elle Reply #16. Nov 14 11, 2:54 AM |

Thanks, Elle, for the vote of confidence and with regard to your post, each and every one of your comments is right on the mark. The point of the site is to have fun and get better, and you do this as you progress and play against tougher opponents. Thanks, Lola Reply #17. Nov 14 11, 10:03 AM |

Lola! You won the Expert quiz last hour, and that was a hard topic! Good for you! I just sent you a little private note, too, to congratulate you! Honestly, when I least expect it, that's when I get a win, and for me, they are few and far between. That was a great win for you! Really well done! ~Elle Reply #18. Nov 14 11, 9:44 PM |

Hang in there lola, you just need four more wins for another badge. Don't forget your level perks. I kept choosing Ireland and it still took me three attempts to get a win. Reply #19. Nov 25 11, 2:19 PM |

To add to the point that Dippo has already made, when the game started there was no Champions division either, which meant you were competing against players who had already won that category. At least now they are in a separate division which gives a slightly better chance of winning. There also used to be a minimum number of players before the win counted (can't remember how many) so I can remember winning a few times but not being credited because not enough people had played. (Due to time differences, this happened when the UK was awake and the USA was asleep). Now THAT was frustrating! Reply #20. Nov 26 11, 3:47 AM |
