Subject: Imbalance in Level Divisions

Posted by: elainehendrix
Date: Jan 22 13

Midway the Who's the Expert's quiz, I noticed that there were only 11 who participated in the 1-40 Division while there were 37 who answered in the 41-200 division.

Can the divisions be split into 1-70 and 71-200?

Ask here about the quiet hour divisions rebalancing:

They may or may not do it.

As more people move up the levels there may be more of an imbalance in the future. It's been good that the highest level at peak times has been split into two different levels. I wonder if there will be another badge created in the future for people who reach 400 wins (Jack of super trades?), or who reach a certain high number of champion level, say 200, wins (Jack of champions?).

I'd prefer "King of All Trades" or "Ace of All Trades" instead...

It would be very unfair for someone at a lower level to be playing against a person with a 40-70 level. Someone new to the site wouldn't stand a chance at all.

By the same token, I think the levels of 40-200 is broad. And if this wasn't going to crash on me, I would attempt to switch screens to discuss this at the other link. Maybe some other night when I can't sleep I'll try that.

The imbalance is worsening. In his hour, it's 33 is to 1!

I just want to get to the badge for 100 wins -- 2/3 of way there, but seems a very long way off :(

Yeah, I've been stuck at 97 wins for some time now. Don't you just love it when some bozo who has well over 100 wins comes along in the last few minutes and tops your score by Googling their answers? This has happened to me at LEAST a dozen times. Googlers should be shot!!!

Wow, you're right about that. They SHOULD be shot! I'm stuck at 96 wins mainly because of these clowns. I recently got 12 correct in around 90 seconds on a new topic. It was tough trivia, I should've won that one. Nope, a bozo Googled their answers and got 14 correct in TWICE the time I took! They, of course, have WELL over 100 wins. This kind of playing is just ridiculous.

Hey, I know who that is. Probably the #1 CLOWN on this site! Hah!!

I think the amount of people being accused of Googling/ looking up answers is overestimated.

Read question.
Go to another screen.
Type in info.
Wait for info to appear.
Read that info.
Return to game & answer question.
Repeat.
Repeat.
Repeat.
Etc.

Ever try that on an iPad? It's impossible. One would also need a large screen with side by side windows open and be a very fast typist.

Sometimes I play the game in the last few minutes & win. I'm not fast at these games. A lot of my wins have surprised me. I played the topic to gain information and ended up winning.

Perhaps I've been thought of as one of those thieves that googles answers. If I attempted to google on timed games, I'd lose on time. As for "stealing a win" in the last few minutes, well, it's happened to me to.

The topic will return eventually. Or use the mulligan. Or switch the topic. Or most of all, remember this is a place to ENJOY.

I'm also one of those people with well over 100 wins who sometimes wins near the end of the hour. I've also been beaten more than a few times in the final minutes of a game. However, I've never googled during a timed game and seldom see winners in WtE who I believe have---their times would simply preclude winning. Even in the very difficult categories, the winning time is generally well under 100 seconds. Maybe what you're describing happens more often at the lower levels, but certainly not at 100+.

I don't know how anyone could get time to Google on Whose the Expert. I got to the 100 by concentrating on the subjects I am best at, making a note of any that I get wrong, revising and trying to memorize the notes before I actually took the quizzes and eventually I might finish at number one in my division. Sometimes it took several attempts. For "German" I came second because I wasn't fast enough, then on the next attempt I won it.

Congrats to wmd on FINALLY getting to 100 wins. Way to go! I'm still stuck at 97 wins but I've been ranked in the top 5 for most of the year. I can at least take satisfaction in THAT.

Thanks very much for the congrats! That was tough getting to 100 wins, I'm just happy I finally got there. I don't care if I don't get any more wins, it was nice just to get to 100. As far as YOU getting to 100 wins, just keep trying. You should try playing at 3 or 4 in the morning when MOST of the bozos are in bed. Or try playing a topic that the biggest clown(s) already have a win for. Maybe this will help.

It's all about perspective people. I'm in the mid-30's, very glad to be there and honestly don't expect to get many more. But I'm good with that. Hope everyone achieves his or her goal(s)...happy quizzing.

YES!! I FINALLY got my 100th win, it's about freakin' time!!

The irony of the 100th win is that I beat someone who obviously used Google for their answers! My time was 53 seconds, their's was 130 seconds. Sometimes irony is a GOOD thing!

Personally, I don't think someone spending 130 seconds googled the answers.

All I know is THIS - Those who use Google for their answers are a lot like those who use steroids in professional sports. Except in rare cases, neither have the balls to defend the way they play. Speak up Googlers, I'd like to hear your rationalizations for playing this pitiful way.
