"Becket" Richard Burton as Archbishop of Canterbury, Thomas Becket. Peter O'Toole as Henry II John Gielgud as King Louis VII of France Great story, and the actors are mesmerizing Reply #4. Mar 27 11, 1:09 PM |

My favorite movie is "Stand by Me". It's a charming story put on screen wonderfully by director Rob Reiner. Reply #5. Mar 27 11, 3:08 PM |

I liked "Stand by Me" and "Strangers on a Train" too, but my favourite is "To Kill a Mockingbird". It's my favourite book, and Gregory Peck is my favourite actor, so I guess it's a natural consequence it would be my favourite movie, particularly as the movie is so faithful to the book. [I really hate it when Hollywood makes a movie out of a book and makes lots of unnecessary changes to the plot. I watched a "whodunnit" recently and found the movie thoroughly confusing as I had read the book, but in the movie, they changed every detail imaginable including the identity of the murderer and the gender for a number of the characters.] Reply #6. My favorite movie is DR ZHIVAGO with Omar Shariff and Julie Christie. It was part historical , scenery was gorgeous with the frozen snow . The music was great, esp. Lara's song. It was partly an "historic" movie of the rise of the serfs. The change from subjects of the Russian royal family to workers/fighters in a country so behind compared to some of the European countries. The love story was very touching. It is a movie i saw long ago but can never forget. Flojjj Reply #7. Sep 14 12, 11:16 PM |

Hear, hear, Mother Goose. And on a slightly different track, I would like to slowly boil in oil those morons who seem to feel it necessary to place Agatha Christie's Miss Marple into all sorts of stories and places where Miss Christie never intended her to be ! Reply #8. Sep 14 12, 11:27 PM |

Sorry, back on track.. my favourite movie is an Australian made one.. released in the 1980s I think.. "A Waltz Through The Hills". Other favourites: "Playing Beatie Bow".. adaptation of Ruth Park's novel "Sunday Too Far Away".. with a very young Jack Thompson Reply #9. Sep 14 12, 11:30 PM |

Mine is a toss-up between "Goodfellas", "The Big Lebowski", "Fargo" and "Saving Private Ryan". MotherGoose, I agree with you on "To Kill a Mockingbird" and I also agree that many movies have strayed too far from the book. "The Shining" is a good example of that though I still fully enjoyed the movie because of Jack. Reply #10. Sep 15 12, 6:55 AM |

A unappreciated favorite of mine is "The Lion in Winter" (O'Toole/Hepburn version). The script and acting are incredible. Reply #13. Sep 19 12, 11:37 AM |

My favorite movie is about to be "2016", once I watch it. I just got the link to the youtube video of it from none other than the Motor City Mad Man himself. Reply #14. Sep 22 12, 11:43 AM |

- Les Miserables, because I love the war setting, the romance, the rebellion, the persistence of the good, every value imparted through the movie, the music. - August Rush, because it was like a dream. - Dead Poets' Society, because the movie dripped with the magic of literature, and spoke of ambition and how artists yearn for it, and it, only. - Pearl Harbour, because of the turbulence the audience feels inside them - the love and devotion for Rafe, the sympathy for Danny - the story, the twists and turns, the romanticizing of war, the war. - 27 Dresses, because it is the best romantic comedy ever made.
