Subject: CarrierIQ and your cell phone

Anybody else read up on this? The short of it is many new smartphones contain this "hidden" application. In addition to usage info it keeps to "improve customer service" (some of which I can see being legit), it also keeps additional tracking information and even captures keystrokes and sends that info back to the carrier with no opt out option.

Not till I saw this thread.

This article says that it has been installed in more than 140 million phones.

Wonder how they justify it? Improving customer service or fighting terrorism?

PS I wonder how we can find out if it's on our phone?

Not sure, don't know if the vendor would be honest. Sounds like a bunch of HTCs are vulnerable at least.
