Subject: Celebrity Adulation

Posted by: crazycube

Is it just me, or is it not slightly worrying the way in which many people look up to the 'celebrity'?

Magazines that offer sneak peeks into the lives of celebrities sell millions. Meeting 'someone famous' is a conversation topic. Autographs, yes just a signature sell for hundreds on eBay. People enter competitions to spend some time with a 'celebrity'.

Most people practically fawn over at least one celebrity, and it isn't healthy.

What do you think?

I agree that it is not healthy to idolize people.
When we look at the people that our children put up on a
petestal to want to be like in the way they act, dress and
even talk. The whole Hollywood scene is unhealthy. Look at
the lifestyles they present. It is not real life only a
pretend situation.

there is never anything wrong with admiring and reconising greatness in anyone.
as long as you still reconise regular people like your friends and the people who help you...
but people that have careers that live someone elses lives like doubles that is sad...

I idolized Eminem until he was doing things people should not do.

Sadly, it is human nature (whether we like to admit it or not) to get pleasure from the misfortunes of others. Which is why there are so many media inches wasted on the likes of Britney Spears and Amy Winehouse.

What is perhaps most unpleasant is the way that the PR agencies who manage these people are just as happy to pull them down as build them up - because of course they make their money either way.

I could care less how those celebrities dress, what they name their babies, which parties they attend, what Oprah and Dr. Phil are saying They are only celebrities because we make them celebrities. But some folks take their obsessiveness to the extremes!

Ooops - an after thought....
Are those folks so unhappy with their lives that they must adopt the personna of celebrities and live through them? How sad!

Subject: Where did Orlando's popularity go?
Date: Mar 07 09

Orlando Bloom was SO popular a few years back. He was a favorite of mine - still is. I know he "quit" movies to be in theater, but I am shocked at how is fanbase has seemed to diminish to nothing. Am I the only one who has noticed that?

lesley153
I haven't followed his fortunes, but I suspect that the answer lies in your question. He may be wildly popular among theatre-goers, but you won't know if you don't go to the theatre. To appear popular again, he would have to return to the cinema, or even to television, because that's where he will be seen by most people.

Has anyone heard Brad Paisley's song "Celebrity". It is genius for what we're talking about here. "You can act just like a fool, people think you're cool..."

I have a problem with celebrity endorsements of politicians. The thought that young adults may be voting for someone simply because their favorite rap star endorsed him is frightening.

i think it's totally fine to idolize a celebrity, until it gets out of control. like, dressing like them, or getting surgery to look like them, or if they're anorexic, you be anorexic too. that's not ok. but, im OBSESSED (not literally do everything they do obsessed, but really really really really.... love them) with ROBERT PATTINSON! :D

I really like Adrien Brody, and if I ever saw him I would ask for an autograph, but I am not disrespecting his privacy and finding out everything about his life. I know a few minor details, like his parents names, but nothing else. And nothing about any other celebrity.
