It is the Scottish Grand National today so I am investing some of my winnings from the English Grand National on three horses today. Tidal Bay Mendip Express Green Flag Reply #61. Apr 12 14, 5:47 AM |

It's that time again, the Grand National horse race takes place on Saturday 11th April at Aintree racecourse (near Liverpool, UK). I have done well over the years, picking the winner and placed horses, a couple of which I have given on this thread. I have backed three horses up to now, Shutthefrontdoor @ 10-1, (it is 8-1 favourite today). Pineau De Re @ 25-1, (it is 16-1 today). Merry King @ 25-1, (it is 20-1 today. There are two more horses I will be backing but not until the week of the race as I want to see the final list of runners. They are last year's second Balthazar King, which is 12-1 today and Across The Bay, which is 50-1 today. Across The Bay is trained by Donald McCain Jr, who trained the 2011 winner Ballabriggs. His father Donald "Ginger" McCain trained Red Rum to win in 1973, 1974 and 1977. He also trained the winner in 2004, Amberleigh House. I backed them all. I would not normally back Across The Bay and it is not the best horse that McCain has in training. I am backing it for sentimental reasons, because it is trained by McCain. A sure way to lose money but so be it. As I have said in previous posts please feel free to add any selections for the race, that you may have picked for whatever reasons. There will be millions of punters having a bet on the race with a million ways of picking them. Good luck if you back any of the horses given. Reply #65. Mar 30 15, 9:52 PM |

Somewhat of a disaster this year, I only had Shutthefrontdoor which came in 5th. Back to the drawing board for next year. I'll be back Reply #67. Apr 11 15, 4:44 PM |

I won the sweepstake at work! We pick them out of a hat though so I cannot claim any great powers of prediction. Reply #68. Apr 12 15, 3:14 PM |

Well done nasty_liar, it seems I wasted my time studying form, lol. daver852 if I'd have had £10 on the tri-cast I could have bought a half share in Fun Trivia. Reply #70. Apr 15 15, 4:06 PM |

Well, here we are again, it's Grand National day. The big horse race meeting at Aintree, near Liverpool, UK. I have picked a number of horses today but my best chances are last year's runner up The Last Samuri, Shantou Flyer, Definitly Red, Pleasant Company and Highland Lodge. Good luck with your own choices but I hope one of mine wins. Reply #71. Apr 08 17, 9:35 AM |

It's that time of year horse racing fans, it is The Grand National on Saturday 14 April 2018. There are quite a few donkeys in the race but it could well go to an outsider. There are three female jockeys in the race and the bookies are only offering 10/1 against one of them becoming the first to win the race. I like "Baie Des Iles" with Katie Walsh aboard which was 50/1 but has now been cut to 16/1. I have backed 6 horses in the race. They are "Tiger Roll" 8/1, "Anibale Fly" 10/1, "Blaklion" 10/1, "Baie Des Iles" 16/1, "Captain Redbeard" 25/1 and "Shantou Flyer" 33/1. Whatever happens the bookies will clean up because every horse in the race will be backed by someone. Good luck if you have a bet. Reply #73. Apr 11 18, 2:49 PM |

My Mum knew nothing about horse racing but once or twice a year placed a bet and quite often won something. I asked her how she chose her horses, and she said she always chose Irish jockeys or horses, often both. I don't know whether that would still work these days. Reply #74. Apr 13 18, 3:16 AM |

Why don't you try it this year there are plenty of Irish horses & Jockeys to choose from. There is "Alpha Des Obeaux" at 40/1 owned by Ryanair boss Michael O'Leary and ridden by Ireland's only professional female jump jockey Rachael Blackmore, you can't get more Irish than that. Whilst I do not bet on horses, I followed the Grand National, merely to see how the horse my wife drew in her work-place office sweepstake got on..............it went base over apex and didn't finish! Reply #80. Apr 14 18, 3:47 PM |
