What's a movie scene you remember that made you jump?

For me it was Jurassic Park when the Raptors were in the kitchen and jumped up at the ceiling.

You're expecting the shark to pop out of the hole in the submerged boat in "Jaws" when the corpse drifts by instead.

I didn't so much jump as fly at that one!

The last scene in Carrie, where the hand shoots up from the grave and grabs Sue's wrist.

When I was a child, my parents took me to the movies and the film being shown was "Frankenstein Meets the Wolfman" I was terrified. When the lights went up my seat was empty. I had crawled beneath it. Ever since then the sight of a full moon coming out from behind clouds can still make me shiver with terror.

An adult Robert de Niro stands facing a girl of about 15. He has his hand on her cheek, and his thumb is moving over her lips. In a split second, and without warning, his thumb parts her lips and is in her mouth.

She wasn't warned, and I believe it made her jump too.

There were many movie scenes that gave me a 'start', but the one I remember most was the same scene in "Jaws" that Weissmarc mentioned.

The shower scene in "Psycho". When the shower curtain is snatched open unexpectedly & that poor woman is stabbed to death. I literally gasped & covered my eyes. Hitchcock was a master at making films that frighten people! He was a genius.

The scene in "Alien" where the little alien bursts from the man's stomach. It caught my attention.

The tiger scene in Apocalypse Now. Scared my roommate to death too.

Pretty good movie - 'Exorcist III'

This scene always gets me. This is just the last minute of the scene. The build up to it made me jump even more.

As soon as I saw this thread I knew my answer - the same as crotalus77. That tiger jumping out of the foliage scared the heck out of me because it was so unexpected!

Boxjaw: I've never seen that movie so I have a question for you. Why is that guy covered with a bedsheet? Is he pretending to be a ghost? On his way to a Halloween party?

The most I ever jumped was not a scary movie at all. It was during The Princess Bride when the Man in Black was pursuing Andre the Giant. Andre lay in ambush and cast a boulder at the Man in Black. The sudden explosion of the boulder against a larger rock wall made me toss my Pepsi and drop my pizza in involuntary spasm.

No callie he is something else entirely. I don't want to spoil it. If you can get the movie, watch it. Pretty good film.

Jack Nicholson lurches out from behind a pillar and slams an ax into poor Scatman Carruthers' chest in The Shining. That movie really damaged me as a kid and it still scares me.

There's a freaky scene in "Anaconda" where the snake swims past the camera & the imprint of a terrified human face suddenly appears through the snake's skin.

It's been a long time but I seem to remember a cene from "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" where a couple are trying to blend in with the zombies by just walking down the street and showing no emotion when a small dog with a human face comes up and yells at them. I think the woman freaked out and screamed thus giving the two of them away. Pretty scary.
