You're expecting the shark to pop out of the hole in the submerged boat in "Jaws" when the corpse drifts by instead. Reply #1. May 19 12, 12:20 AM |

I didn't so much jump as fly at that one! The last scene in Carrie, where the hand shoots up from the grave and grabs Sue's wrist. Reply #2. May 19 12, 1:15 AM |

When I was a child, my parents took me to the movies and the film being shown was "Frankenstein Meets the Wolfman" I was terrified. When the lights went up my seat was empty. I had crawled beneath it. Ever since then the sight of a full moon coming out from behind clouds can still make me shiver with terror. Reply #3. May 19 12, 2:28 AM |

An adult Robert de Niro stands facing a girl of about 15. He has his hand on her cheek, and his thumb is moving over her lips. In a split second, and without warning, his thumb parts her lips and is in her mouth. She wasn't warned, and I believe it made her jump too. Reply #4. May 19 12, 8:27 AM |

There were many movie scenes that gave me a 'start', but the one I remember most was the same scene in "Jaws" that Weissmarc mentioned. Reply #5. May 19 12, 10:23 AM |

The shower scene in "Psycho". When the shower curtain is snatched open unexpectedly & that poor woman is stabbed to death. I literally gasped & covered my eyes. Hitchcock was a master at making films that frighten people! He was a genius. Reply #6. May 19 12, 12:01 PM |

The scene in "Alien" where the little alien bursts from the man's stomach. It caught my attention. Reply #7. May 19 12, 12:09 PM |

Pretty good movie - 'Exorcist III' This scene always gets me. This is just the last minute of the scene. The build up to it made me jump even more. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zH8ynu0jRvY Reply #12. Jun 22 12, 10:23 PM |

As soon as I saw this thread I knew my answer - the same as crotalus77. That tiger jumping out of the foliage scared the heck out of me because it was so unexpected! Reply #13. Jun 22 12, 11:52 PM |

Boxjaw: I've never seen that movie so I have a question for you. Why is that guy covered with a bedsheet? Is he pretending to be a ghost? On his way to a Halloween party? Reply #14. Jun 22 12, 11:58 PM |

The most I ever jumped was not a scary movie at all. It was during The Princess Bride when the Man in Black was pursuing Andre the Giant. Andre lay in ambush and cast a boulder at the Man in Black. The sudden explosion of the boulder against a larger rock wall made me toss my Pepsi and drop my pizza in involuntary spasm. Reply #15. Jun 23 12, 5:58 AM |

No callie he is something else entirely. I don't want to spoil it. If you can get the movie, watch it. Pretty good film. Reply #16. Jun 23 12, 12:18 PM |

Jack Nicholson lurches out from behind a pillar and slams an ax into poor Scatman Carruthers' chest in The Shining. That movie really damaged me as a kid and it still scares me. Reply #17. Jun 23 12, 2:38 PM |

There's a freaky scene in "Anaconda" where the snake swims past the camera & the imprint of a terrified human face suddenly appears through the snake's skin. Reply #18. Aug 01 12, 8:21 PM |

It's been a long time but I seem to remember a cene from "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" where a couple are trying to blend in with the zombies by just walking down the street and showing no emotion when a small dog with a human face comes up and yells at them. I think the woman freaked out and screamed thus giving the two of them away. Pretty scary. Reply #20. Nov 04 12, 8:35 PM |
