What is a "vacation"? I can't relate until I know, and I can't know until you tell me, or I experience one, I suppose. Is it fun, is it warm, does it make you happy? What happens if it doesn't get figured out? Will you still go, wherever it may be, to experience whatever it is? But getting back to the original climate of this thread, if you could see the chaos here and the damage caused by a recent cyclone that hit on the weekend, figuring out where to go for a vacation (holiday for the benefit of those who do not know the word) is a very very minute problem. Just a tad, Kitty, but it was more whining on my behalf than anything else. I can't remember the last time I took a vacation, and right now, my entire state is burning down, complete with an ARSON who has decided these wildfires aren't bad enough. ARSON has set 11 additional fires. I don't want to even think what will happen when they catch him/her/them. It won't be pretty. When you can stand on your porch and see flames, and all day and night you hear the constant roar of huge planes and helicopters flying over to drop water and flame retardant, and the smoke is so thick you can't see through it, so breathing it is a bad idea, and thousands of people have been evacuated, and you're still right on the edge of dodging that big old bullet, it tends to make a person, any person, a little edgy and stressed. I'm a little edgy and stressed. I'm sorry. As I said, this is a nice thread and a lovely thought, but the problems I'm looking at can't really be solved by talking about them. Wildfires that leap across the fire lines are just plain old terrifying. (So are cyclones, I would imagine. Yow, I hope you're okay. That sounds just awful.) Reply #8. Jun 24 12, 1:18 AM |

Unfortunately many of us here in Oz understand exactly what you're talking about with those fires, Blackdresss, including feelings towards those responsible. Mike is right, who better than Aussies know the dangers and the terrors of fires. We have had some horrendous ones in every state of Australia and Victoria (where Mike is) has had more than its share. I can recall our distress and terror wondering whether or not my stepdaughter was safe with all her animals and having to resort to the Red Cross tracing her in Victoria's last disastrous ones a couple of years back. On the other side of the coin there have been disastrous floods also with loss of life. Here we were lucky (if you could call it that) that in the three recent cyclones (all in one week) there was only one life lost. And sadly some of them were deliberately lit.
