Hubby is just shy of 3 years older than me. My oldest friend is married to a man 17 years younger than herself. They met when he was 16 and he's nearer her son's age than hers. In print that looks bad, but they have been together over 20 years and married for 10 years, so something works there. I'd say it depends on the people and age has little to do with it. Reply #4. There was exactly twelve years between my first husband and myself (our birthdays were 3 days apart). Personally I think age does not matter, it is up to the individual. My ex-wife is four years younger than me, for whatever that's worth. Interestingly, she tells me she's "grown up a lot" since we split. We didn't really differ in age-related matters like music, entertainment, fashion, etc., but she wasn't especially mature in terms of financial matters. That had more to do with her upbringing than her age, I think. Four years isn't all that much of a gap, and it makes less and less of a difference as one ages, in my observation. Reply #11. My husband is 6 weeks older than I am. We didn't go to school together, just happened to meet as adults. My parents were 4 yrs. apart (male oldest) and my in-laws are 7 yrs. apart (male oldest). My mother (18 at the time) was under the impression that my father was 21 up until the obtaining of a marriage license, when she found that he was four months younger than her! They were married within six months of meeting and have been married 23 years. As far as my personal relationships, I've had the most success dating people within two years of my age, though I did once heavily consider taking a date with a man twenty years my senior! Reply #13.
