LEG #5, CLUE #1 -- Sports Road Block A Road Block is a task that only one member of the team can complete. While they may receive ideas from their teammates, the construction of the quiz must be wholly done by the selected team member. Before you receive your next clue, please choose the team member who doesn't mind getting shot, sliced, and served. The participating team member will need to notify me personally via PM on the main site with to proceed. ------ The selected team member received the following: ROAD BLOCK It's time to turn off your computer screen and get active. Why sit around all race when you could venture into Sports? That's right-- it's time to high-tail it over to another juggernaut category, this one with over twelve thousand quizzes! That's over double the General category! And not all of it is a Nightmare. ;) For this task, you'll need to write a quiz about any single sport. This can not be a quiz in Sports Mixed. In other words, it has to be a quiz about only Baseball or only Hockey or only Bowling, etc. If you write in a subcategory that does not contain a quiz written by Nightmare, you will receive a thirty minute time credit. LEG #5, CLUE #2 -- Specific Films Route Info Okay-- now your entire team must be tired out. It's a good time to sit back and watch a movie or two. Head on over to the Movies category; you're writing a cinematic trivia quiz. The Movies category is vast in its selection, but some of its most interesting offerings will always be about single films. Pick your youngest team member-- you must write a quiz about a single film released in theaters a year after their date of birth. You may, of course, chat about “how young he/she is” (as some of you may be apt to do), but remember, the clock is ticking! Alternatively: You may write a quiz about any single film in any year, ignoring the requirements of the task completely, as long as there are no quizzes already online about that movie. Taking this route will result in a one hour penalty at the next Pit Stop. Remember, all members of the team can collaborate, but only one may submit. A Detour is a choice between two different tasks, each with their own pros and cons. Some Detour tasks may prove to be better options for some teams depending on their strengths and weaknesses, but some options may also facilitate speedier or more creative results. Only one of these quizzes needs to be completed. Talk the Talkie - For this task, you’ll be turning to some of the most famous quotes of cinema history for inspiration. Looking at the AFI's List of top 100 film quotes, choose one. That must be your quiz title. The quiz must be written in the Movies category and it can NOT be specifically about the film it's from. You may include said film as a question, but not as the whole quiz. Miyazaki - Hiyao Miyazaki was the first Japanese anime filmmaker to win an Academy Award (with Spirited Away). Double U-Turn You have arrived at the DOUBLE U-TURN. If you choose, you may force another team to complete the other side of the Detour that they did not originally choose, thus expanding the breadth of information added to the site. If that team has already passed, the U-Turn will be ineffective. Two teams may choose to use this U-Turn (as it is a Double) but a team may only use it once, and any team can not be U-Turned twice in one leg of the race. If a team is U-Turned, all teams passing by will know who has been selected and who did the deed. First come, first serve. You must notify Kyle via PM on the main site if you do or do not wish to use the U-Turn. You must also notify him if you can not use the U-Turn for any reason (ie. It has already been used or you have used up your U-Turn ability). When this is done you may receive your next clue. LEG #5, CLUE #5 -- Humanities Route Info Half of this race, it seems, has been about going back to the past in some sort of retrospective bout. This is the last time, I promise (no I don’t). We're done with Movies for now. Instead, we’re going to go back before film to straight-forward (HA!) visual and performance art in the Humanitiescategory. This time you have a bit of a choice. You may write in one of five different subcategories. The catch is, we can only have four quizzes go online for any one of them. If, when quizzes start going into the queue, yours ends up being the fifth submitted to a specific subcategory, your team will incur a time penalty of two hours. Time to think creatively-- what will the other teams not use? Then again, maybe you're in the lead and can play strategically. LEG #5, PIT STOP A Pit Stop is a period of rest at which teams can take a short reprieve from the fast-paced race around FunTrivia. Here, their quizzes from the previous leg can continue to go online and they will depart at a specific time based on their advantages/penalties. For this leg of the race, each correction notice results in a 60 minute time penalty. Teams with quizzes still in the queue by the start of Leg 6 must keep their quizzes submitted. While that team member will not be able to submit until said quiz is placed online, they will not receive any penalties. Should they receive corrections on their late quiz, it shall be applied to their check-in time crossing the Finish Line (60 minutes per correction). Unfortunately, on the open tasks allowing for a choice amongst all of the categories, it is luck of the draw. Please use your best judgment when submitting to busy categories. ;) Leg 6 of the Race will commence on October 4 at 1:00pm (FST). LEG #6, CLUE #2 -- General -> Mixed or Unexplained/Urban Legends Detour It's time to sprint to the end, but to get there you'll need to pass through a gauntlet of fiendish tasks, hazings, and unrelenting quiz plays. You're going to the General category, racers. I hope you brought your helmets. A Detour is a choice between two different tasks, each with their own pros and cons. Some Detour tasks may prove to be better options for some teams depending on their strengths and weaknesses, but some options may also facilitate speedier or more creative results. Only one of these quizzes needs to be completed. In this Detour, your choices are: Fact – For this task, you're sticking with a standard-- your quiz must be in the Mixed category and it must be ten questions in length. You must use an Author's Challenge title. Remember to read the guidelines for the section; a true mixed quiz can be very tough to write well! Fiction? – While the General category contains a great mixture taking in several different sections of the site, it also houses some weird stuff. This task requires you write a quiz in either The Unexplained, Urban Legends, or one of their subcategories. Having a focus for your quiz can sometimes be easier than writing a mixed trivia game from scratch-- having a firm base, even if the facts aren't so confirmable, may be the edge you need! Remember to read the guidelines for the section! ------------------- Fact 1. LEG #6, CLUE #4 -- …to Sea Route Info All good things come to an end, team, and it's time for the race to come to a close. So much of what we've done in the past six legs of the game has been looking back nostalgically (and, occasionally, looking ahead). It's time to bring things full circle. For your final task, it's time to return to the sea. Coast to coast, if you will. This one requires that one member of your team submit a quiz containing the word Sea. The word can be on its own or integrated into a larger word; something like 'Seabound' or 'Undersea' or even 'Unseasoned' would work in the title-- as long as 'Sea' is in there. It must be in the same main category as your very first quiz for the race (the one containing 'Sea', of course), but it can not be placed into the same subcategory.
