Subject: Nasty goes to The Match

This is my new blog about all things sports.

Warning to any North American readers expecting any of your sports to be featured. They will not. I do not watch Baseball, Basketball, Ice Hockey or American Football.

I am a huge sports fan though. The most important being football, or soccer to those in North America, in particular the team I have supported since I was a boy. Huddersfield Town.

I've never had the pleasure of watching a cricket match. After playing Fun Trivia for as long as I have, I feel like I know a few things about cricket, yet have never seen it.

Both great sports but I do prefer tennis. To be honest though you’d all be hard pressed to find a sport that I dislike. I just choose to follow some over others because time is limited enough already that I don’t have time to watch my favourites anyway.

I missed it all on Sunday whilst at work, but needs must! Nursery is expensive... I watched the cricket in highlights but haven’t yet gone back to watch the Men’s tennis, I will when my disappointment for Federer dies down.

Very disappointed for Federer. To have match point and not make it must hurt so badly. I remember he had match point against Novak in a five set semi final match at Flushing Meadows a few years ago. I think Djokovic may just be the best player of the most important points of all time. His bottle and desire in those moments is unquestionable. Still, so sad for Roger. I love watching him play. He makes it look effortless and beautiful despite the fact that he is hitting with incredible power and accuracy.

The cricket was amazing. To draw the final even after the extra over each is remarkable! I think that match must rival the South Africa vs Australia semi final from 1999. The difference is that I actually watched that whole match. Klusener almost blasting South Africa to the final. But this crop of England players is a very talented short format group. The batting lineup is truly formidable and of course the attach in favourable conditions on home soil... deserved favourites.

Today’s big news for me was the announcement of the new Huddersfield Town kit for the forthcoming season. Google it and have a good laugh. I think and hope it’s actually a prank but they did play in it during tonight’s friendly match against Rochdale.

Looking forward to the new season!

The new kit reminded me of the Greek National Team.
Here in the USA, the sash of a gambling company would never be permitted.

We wont mention new strips Nasty! Ours has done away with the stripes..........looks like a clone of Ipswich Town with different badge!
In fact I had a whinge on team forum......bemoaning the passing of the days when the team played in Blue & White stripes EVERY season, and the only time they didn't, was if playing away their colours clashed with that of home team....no sponsor's logo just team badge, no 2nd strip, 3rd strip and the like. Teams retained a bit of recognisable individuality......now all seem clones of each other.

At least you've kept the stripes Nasty! Anyone interested in ours just google Colchester United.

I don’t like the new Colchester kit, they should be blue and white like I always remember them.

Mark, gambling companies are allowed as sponsors here. In fact, around half of the teams in the top two tiers of English football have gambling sponsorship. That is a rather uncomfortable stat that doesn’t sit right with me. Gambling wrecks so many lives that it seems rather irresponsible for top sports teams to advertise them like that. Cigarettes and booze are no longer allowed as sponsorship like this so maybe it’s time betting firms got the boot too.

I do gamble myself though. I do accumulators on sports and play poker online.

Personally I prefer to keep what I HAVE got, rather than gamble it on what I MIGHT get!

I see it as paying for a form of entertainment rather than a means of winning money.

I’ve only paid £20 into my poker/betting site account over the past year. Playing with that same £20 for the entire year (well until a couple of months back when I list the last of it) as it fluctuated up and down depending on wins and losses.

£20 for a years entertainment isn’t bad in my opinion.

I agree fully with C30. Lotteries are a tax on people who don't understand statistics ;-)
On the other hand, if you can control yourself, then £20 for a year's entertainment isn’t bad, as nasty said.

There are too many different strips now. Used to be just the two home and away. Just money spinners for the club.

Totally agree Ruby. There was a time............back in the "dark ages" when teams wore the same colours and design each season (in the case of U's, Blue & White stripes). The only time the team didn't play in these colours, was if playing away their strip clashed with home team colours........otherwise usual strip was worn. No garish sponsor logo splashed across it, just team badge............then came sponsorship and replica shirts..............the goose started laying golden eggs!
So now we have, not just the home strip changing every season, we also have away strip, third strip and "every third Saturday in February during leap year" strip. .............."progress"??????????
Maybe I am an "old dinosaur" but I find the modern "change the strip each season" ridiculous and VERY annoying and certainly stopped buying a replica shirt MANY years ago.
Teams are rapidly losing whatever individuality they once had and all seem clones of each other.

Well done Colchester beating Palace on pens last night.
Not looking forward to Liverpool v Burnley at the weekend. Last time we played them Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain got injured from a heavy tackle and was out for a year.
Has any one read the Peter Crouch book How To Be A Footballer? I just started it and it is quite funny.

Every so often , we football fans wake up to a pleasant surprise!

"Just see how many we lost by", I thought, this morning. Well, well, and WELL....................given our current performance in League 2, and the fact Palace had already beaten Manchester United on their own park in Premiership, I thought it merely a question of how many goals we lost by!

Well done the U's. :)

Yes well done Colchester! Got a nice tie against Tottenham Hotspur as a reward!

I'm afraid I am not exactly enjoying the football on offer at the John Smiths Stadium so far this season. We look to be in a relegation fight already after 5 games and I've watched three losses at home already... everyone very reminiscent of what was going on last season.

Great first half, dominate possession, don't create any clear cut chances, concede soft goals, lose.

Sorry about Huddersfield. Hope they can pull things around. Lots of time to do this.

Champions league group draw today. I will be watching avidly.
Chelsea, Man City and Liverpool all in Group A. Spurs are in Group B so we could draw them.
