Wow! This is mind-blowing! Also would have helped me when I changed a recent quiz from Matching to Multiple Choice (in consultation with an editor before it went live). This is going to simplify things for a lot of people, I'm sure! Now here's a quick question: Suppose I change a quiz from Regular to Matching, and then as I work on it I discover it was better off as a Match quiz in the first place. Are the three wrong answer choices now lost, or are they restored? Reply #3. Dec 10 21, 5:41 PM |

Arrrgh. I confounded myself in my scenario. Let me try that again: Suppose I convert a quiz from Regular to Matching. Then as I work on it, I determine it was really better off as a Regular quiz in the first place. Are the three wrong answer choices for each question lost, or are they restored? Reply #4. Theoretically no data is lost as you switch between the formats. So even photos will remain in the template if you convert from photo to another format. I say theoretically because I haven’t tested it. Let me know how it goes :p Reply #5. Dec 10 21, 7:02 PM |

Just experimented with an unfinished template. Took a Regular quiz, converted it to Matching, then converted it back to Regular. Results: The wrong answer choices were not restored. Data is lost. :( Reply #6. Dec 12 21, 4:17 PM |

Before changing formats, it is straightforward to use the Quiz Preview screen and copy all of that to a word processing document, from which it can be retrieved at a later date, if desired. But it seems strange to change formats unless you are sure that the new one is going to be a better one to use for this particular quiz. For adopted quizzes, that may well be the case. For new quizzes, I would always write the whole thing before even setting up the template, so by then I know what format it needs to use. But if you do change your mind after starting, presumably it only needs a single change. Reply #7. Dec 12 21, 4:52 PM |

Looney_tunes, I was just doing what Terry asked. :-) Normally, I wouldn't play around with it so casually. Reply #8. Dec 12 21, 6:29 PM |

And I want to reiterate that it's a great feature. A couple of times I have submitted a Match quiz, but then the editor and I would decide it would make a better Regular quiz. So that meant I had to cut and paste everything into a new template --very laborious. Having a feature like this will save time should a situation like this arise again. :-) Reply #9. "Took a Regular quiz, converted it to Matching, then converted it back to Regular. Results: The wrong answer choices were not restored. Data is lost. :(" Ok, I'll play around with it tomorrow and see if I can get it to keep the data. In theory it should be possible. I think the template itself is blanking them out with "------" data. I've selected the wrong format too many times for me to not be overly excited by this. Thanks! Reply #11. Dec 13 21, 9:01 AM |

Wonderful addition. Terry :) I've already started working on a quiz that has languished unfinished for far too long because it is an author challenge title and I couldn't switch formats without giving up the title which I really didn't want to do. Even with all the silly season mayhem and a slipped disc hampering my progress, I'm itching to see to what I can create. Thank you for this. Reply #12. Dec 13 21, 10:12 AM |

Can't tell you how many quizzes I've had to toast just because I needed to change formats. Awesome change!! Reply #13. Jan 07 22, 9:36 AM |

I converted a quiz in process to match format but it is still asking for interesting information for each answer. Is there a way to override this? I cannot submit it at the moment? Reply #14. Nov 23 23, 11:17 AM |

All quizzes require content in their Interesting Information fields, Match format included. Reply #15. Nov 23 23, 11:23 AM |

The only fields you never need to fill in in a match quiz are the wrong answers. Reply #16. Nov 23 23, 12:31 PM |

In fact, the editors in some categories will expect slightly more information or a match quiz, since it is such a stark format. In Literature, for example, if you are matching books to their authors, I would expect a couple of sentences describing the book, and a couple about the author. In multiple choice format, we don't accept questions that just ask who wrote this book, you need to provide a bit of information about either the book or the author, to distinguish the title from the host of similar, sometimes identical, titles out there.
