Subject: Photo - Multiple Licences

Hi All,

This may well have been covered before but wish to double check.

I am looking to use an image of a blank world map from Wikimedia Commons but it has multiple licences:

1. GNU Free Documentation
2. Creative Commons Attribution - Share Alike
3. Creative Commons Attribution

With a footnote that I "may select the license of your choice".

From Wesley's tune-up quiz I am content that I can ignore the GNU Free Documentation licence. It also says under the Share Alike licence that "this licensing tag was added to this file as part of the GFDL Licensing update".

I am convincing myself that I am ok to therefore ignore the Share Alike licence and proceed under option 3, Attribution.

Wish to make sure I fall on the right side of the rules, so any objections, or better yet a link to a similar world map without multiple licences? :)

Pixabay has a selection of maps that we can use. The one I used for a recent label quiz is here:

To OP: If a picture has multiple licenses, you can use any one of them. You pick the one to use. So in your case, CC: Attribution is a viable pick.

What you can't do is cherry-pick and combine between licenses.

Let's assume we have two CC licenses:

(1) is CC Attribution-ShareAlike
(2) is CC Attribution-Noncommercial.

In this case, you can't just say this is equivalent to CC: Attribution because (1) allows commercial use and (2) allows re-sharing under any license.

Rather, the original author has chosen to allow ALL noncommercial uses as well as SOME commercial uses, namely those that abide by the share-alike clause. Neither of these, however, makes for a correct FunTrivia license.
(This is actually a viable combination to prevent an image agency from making a derivative work, e.g. by combining the depicted item with a new background and then selling that work for profit.)

Piggybacking my question into this thread, Sorry.
Where can I learn all the Fun Trivia rules about licences etc?
Where is the tune up quiz of which you speak?
Thank you.

Some resources can be found HERE. Wes' quiz is invaluable; mine might be out of date.

Thanks, that's really handy as I'm doing my first label quiz and I need to find a map, but Wikimedia isn't very helpful as most of the blanks are too small or have the wrong licence.

I'm using the one linked in this thread for both quizzes.
