The Challenge:
| | This challenge was a time-limited event during late October and early November 2017. It is no longer available.
The Evil Twin is at it again! At least this time, he didn't lock me up in any dungeon. But he has a new plan: He dug a HOLE into the LAWN, right in front of the Tower of Challenges. Not any hole, but a mass grave, the final resting place of the tens of thousands of quizzes authors have begun but never finished. He's preparing a dark ritual to release the ghosts of quizzes past and overwrite our trove of trivia with blank quizzes, random letters, hopeless grammar and worse feats of authoring than you can ever imagine.
Thankfully, we can disrupt his plans, but I need your help. That evil cat has installed a magic barrier that prevents me from getting into the tower. So you will need to venture in and retrieve some lanterns. Nine of them, to be exact, all different. Once you have them, place them on the grave. I already have put markers on the graveyard to show which one needs to go where. Once you have found them all, light them with your trivia abilities. Just make sure the evil spirits don't put them out again - you need all nine lit at the same time to dispel the darkness that threatens us.
The usual precautions apply - we need to keep discussions out of the open to not tip him off, but your team message boards are safe for discussing everything related to the latest threat. He still can't get there. Those of you absolutely wanting to go solo, be aware that you need to be in a team, even if you're the only member. Oh, in case you should find two identical lanterns, you only need one of them. The second one is for those of you who might have problems lighting the primary - but either one works.

We are certain you have at least a week of time to prevent disaster, but the evil one's plans and powers can never be exactly estimated.
Addendum: Our magical research team has come up with some additional information.
- Those adepts looking for instructions on how to light lanterns should venture beyond the graveyard and go into the tower itself.
- Except for the moment of triumph, everything you do causes both light and darkness. You just might not notice both - lit lanterns can't get any brighter and dark ones can't go out again.
- The art of lighting lanterns is a lot like that of getting dressed. Putting on your pants and coats before your underwear is not a great idea either.
We had a recent visit from a Hogwarts professor. She just shook her head at some of the attempts being made here. "Don't they understand that, in magical rituals, there is only one correct order in which to do things? And when in doubt about two steps, anything related to undead has to work towards the grave. Always do the one away from the grave first!" I wanted to ask her more, but she had already transformed into a cat and disappeared over the wall... |
