Surgical appliance fitter. Benny's father, Alfred, Sr., sold surgical appliances and trusses in a shop in Southampton, England. Early in his working career, he was also a circus clown.
Never married. Benny was rejected twice by women he proposed to and never married. He considered his long-time television crew his 'family,' and formed a close association with their children. Several of them were employed on his show as child actors.
