Siegfried & Roy
Sarmoti. SARMOTI is an anogram that stands for Siegfried and Roy Masters of the Impossible.
June 13, 1939. Siegfried was born in pre-war Germany on June 13, 1939.
October 3, 1944. Roy was born on October 3, 1944 during World War II. Roy's mother had to give birth to Roy at the only safe place during a bombing, his aunt's house.
Siegfried Fishbacher and Roy Uwe Ludwig Horn. Siegfried and Roy's names are quite interesting because they were born and raised in Germany. They first came to the U.S. in the 1960's.
The Mirage. Siegfried and Roy have been the headliners of the Mirage for 13 1/2 years, up until the unfortunate night of October 3. Before The Mirage, Siegfried and Roy have performed at The Tropicana, The Frontier, The Stardust, and at the Lido in Paris, France.
Japan. After a 7 year run at the Frontier, they signed a 57.5 million dollar contract with Steve Wynn to headline at the Mirage. While the Mirage was under construction, they headed to Japan for a 38 week run.
Tropicana. They later had a successful run at the Lido in Paris. In 1970 they returned to Las Vegas for a three year run in the Stardust's "Lido" this time with a 15 minute spot.
Werner, Alfred and Manfred. Roy is the baby! Werner is a Las Vegas landscaper, Alfred lives in Ireland and Manfred passed away after complications from a motorcycle accident.
Margot. She lives in Romania where she is a nun and runs an orphanage and now goes by the name of Sister Dolore. He also has a brother named Marinus. Maria is his mother's name, and Johanna is Roy's mother.
Prosperity. Prosperity was born on Christmas day weighing just under two pounds. Roy rushed her to the nursery where he heated blankets and fed her with an eyedropper. She became his pride and joy, his "little girl". He made the heartbreaking decision to give her to the Cincinnati Zoo where she could be mated to preserve her breed. He describes this as "one of the most difficult decisions of my life."
Darren Romeo . Known also as "The Voice of Magic" he incorporates broadway music into his magic. He is the only protege Siegfried and Roy have ever taken.
Chico. Roy smuggled Chico onto the TS Bremen! He spent every day at the Bremen Zoo feeding, walking, playing, and sitting with Chico until one day he left with him and never returned! The captain didn't appreciate their cheetah antics and fired them. But they were hired the same day by an agent who happened to be onboard! Siegfried and Roy were born!
TS Bremen. At the time of their meeting, Roy was just 15. He had run away from home after a difficult childhood. Siegfried was 20. He asked Roy to be his assistant one night. When Roy said the show was to predictable, he asked if Siegfried could make a Cheetah disappear. In response, Siegfried uttered the fateful words "In magic, anything is possible." and the rest is history. Little did he know, Roy had smuggled a Cheetah onboard!
8. Siegfried says that he knew as a result of his fathers reaction to this trick that he wanted to be a magician. He says it was the first time his father ever really showed him attention, it was their first real conversation as he asked, "How did you do that?"
Hexe. Hexe was part wolf. One day when she and Roy were walking through the woods, Roy began to sink as a result of quicksand. Hexe ran and got a nearby farmer who was able to pull Roy out just in time. Roy says this was when he knew his bond with animals was something amazing. He has stated that he trusts his animals more then most people.
Gildah. Gildah appeared in the show for years. She is 56 years old and is the largest occupant of Siegfried and Roy's Secret Garden.
The Jungle Palace. For years the two shared separate living quarters in the Palace. The two also share a private retreat known as "Little Bavaria" where they have allowed few souls to venture. Siegfried also has a home on the Spanish Trail and Roy has an apartment at "The Secret Garden" so that he can be close to his animals.
October 3, 1944. This is also coincidentally, the day he and Siegfried along with their "evil queen" Lynette Chappelle became legalized United States citizens (1988). It was also on this day in 2003 that their lives would change forever as Roy was severely injured during a sold out show at the Mirage.
Uwe Ludwig. Roy was born at his aunt's house during an Allied bombing raid. Their full names are Siegfried Fischbacher and Roy Uwe Ludwig Horn. Both born in post war Germany, Siegfried in Rosenheim, Bavaria (South Germany) and Roy in Nordenham (North Germany).
