Tryphaena. Tryphaena was referred to as the mean one, and she took the throne immediately when her father and Cleopatra left for Rome. Berenice is the oldest, but is timid. Berenice eventually takes over, but that is after Tryphaena is dead. Arsinoe is Cleopatra's younger sister, and Neva is Cleopatra's loyal maid.

Cedar. Snowbird is Weetamoo's baby sister that dies partway through the book. Seal is a toddler from another family. They are very close, and both of them will grow up to be sachems of their villages.

Elizabeth. Elizabeth was stricken with Smallpox, and is mentioned in the book many times. Caroline is Marie's favorite sister, but was married off, and doesn't get to see Marie anymore. Josephine is a sister of Marie Antoinette, but she died. Lulu is actually a Lady-in-waiting, not Marie's sister at all!

Sheri Holman. This is one of my favourite books in the series. Sondok wanted to learn the things that would make her a good and responsible ruler but, as in many ancient countries, girls were not given the opportunity to learn beyond what was needed to run a household.

Jahanara: Princess of Princesses, India, 1627. This book is by Kathryn Lasky. Jahanara's mother's death was the reason for a very beautiful landmark in India. Her father was so grieved at the loss of his favourite wife that he had a tomb built for her. That tomb is the Taj Mahal.
Carolyn Meyer. Isabel married Prince Ferdinand of Aragon and became Queen of Spain. Under her rule literature and art flourished, as did the Spanish Inquisition. Isabel was the mother of Catherine of Aragon, who was the first wife of King Henry VIII, and mother of Mary Tudor (Bloody Mary).
