Zindel, Paul
Sophomore. In the beginning of the book there is "The Oath", in which they both state that they are sophomores at Franklin High School.
Miss Reillen. Miss Reillen is the "cricket" because her clothes don't fit her and her tights make a scratchy sound when she walks. Miss King is their English teacher, Mr. Weiner is their Problems in American Democracy teacher, and Miss Stewart is the typing teacher.
190 Howard Avenue. When they looked up Mr. Pignati's address, it was 190 Howard Avenue, which is near where Lorraine lives. Mr. Pignati's house is across the street from a convent.
Pigs. Mr. Pignati gave his wife a glass pig to remind her of him, and she began collecting them. Her collection grew quite large, and in Mr. Pignati's house there was an entire room filled with pigs.
Bobo. Bobo is a baboon at the local zoo. Mr. Pignati goes to visit Bobo every day, and one day he takes Lorraine and John to visit him. Mr. Pignati likes to throw peanuts to Bobo. One day, Bobo dies of pneumonia. This was the last straw for poor Mr. Pignati.
Conchetta. Conchetta was Mr. Pignati's wife. She died, but Mr. Pignati pretends she's still alive, and John and Lorraine don't find out about it until John does some snooping and finds her death certificate.
the Boatman. In the paper and pencil game, Mr. Pignati tells them a story about a wife being murdered, and they had to list in order who they thought was most responsible for the wife's death. Both John and Lorraine picked the Boatman, which stands for magic. This supposedly means John and Lorraine are both most interested in magic.
He had a heart attack. The three of them had been playing a game, and Mr. Pignati dropped. They called the police, Mr. Pignati was brought to the hospital, and he was fine. He asks John and Lorraine to look after the house for him until he gets back.
Norton. While Mr. Pignati was in the hospital, John and Lorraine threw a wild party. He comes home early, to find his house a mess and kids everywhere drinking and smoking. His wife's dress is ripped, and Norton, John's enemy, had broken all the pigs in the pig room. Mr. Pignati finally dies after he hears about the death of Bobo.
