 Brigadoon

Friedrich Wilhelm Gerstacker. Gerstacker wrote this story in 1862. It is considerably darker than the musical and has a bittersweet, downbeat ending (the couple are not reunited at the end).

All of these (It is an authentic Scottish funeral dirge., It was not written by Lowe (or based on his music)., It is played on the bagpipes.). The dance is accompanied by the "pibrochead", an authentic Scottish dirge played on the bagpipes. Although two pipers were present onstage when this was first performed, only one of them actually played because the two bagpipes together were deafeningly loud.

New York. Jeff and Tommy are in a bar. Tommy is approached by Jane, his fiance, who reproaches him for having been anti-social since his return from Scotland. Tommy is distracted by memories of Fiona and Brigadoon; he and Jane quarrel and she leaves. Tommy calls Jeff and tells him he wants to go back to see where Brigadoon was.

Tommy's love for Fiona. As Jeff and Tommy are about to leave, the village reappears and a sleepy Mr. Lundie enters, saying " My, my. Ye mus' really love her! Ye woke me up!"
1 day every 100 years. Mr.Forsyth gave his life to protect Brigadoon from witches on the condition that it would only appear 1 day every 100 years; and that no citizen of Brigadoon could ever leave its borders.
"Jeannie's Packin' Up" and "My Mother's Wedding Day". In the stage version Meg has a much bigger role. She also gets to sing her 2 humorous songs, "My Mother's Wedding" and "The Love of my Life." "Jeannie's Packin Up" is a cute number for the girls as they anticipate Jeannie's wedding.
Mr.Lundy. "Are we married now Mr.Lundy?" "Aye lad, you're married!"
Maggie. Maggie, a character only in the stage version, is a dancing role. Her dances include the "Bonnie Jean Ballet" and the "Funeral Dance".
"Because the cow wouldna take it back". "I'm selling the finest milk and cream. Come sip it and ye will vow. That this is the finest milk and cream, that ever came out a cow. The finest it is, the price is small, with milk and a cream alac. There's nothing to do but sell it all, the cow wouldna take it back!"
Jeff. Jeff convinces Tommy that Brigadoon is just a dream.
MacLaren. Jeannie becomes a Dalrymple after her marriage to Charlie.
Charles MacPherson Dalrymple. He says his full name when he interupts Jeannie's packin' up.
Brigadoon wasn't on the map. MacGuffie couldn't sell Tommy milk because a 20th century shilling wasn't worth anything in 18th century Scotland; there was no telephone at the tavern because the telephone had not been invented when the miracle happened; and the people of Brigadoon stared at Tommy and Jeff because they were outsiders. However, Jeff called them "snobbish" because Brigadoon was not on the map. It couldn't have been, though, because it had not technically existed for 200 years.
a shilling. Tommy gave MacGuffie a shilling, which led to some startled reactions from the locals. Jeff went on to ask Tommy if he had given Angus a "hunk of uranium."
Maggie. While Harry was in love with Jean, Maggie was in love with Harry. Jane was Tommy's fiancee and never met Harry. If Meg ever had any interest in Harry (and with Meg, that was highly possible), the script never mentioned it.
the tavern. Meg offered to take Jeff to the tavern, and the ended up at the open shed. She told him about her escapades in the glen during the song "Love of My Life", and sidled up to him at the wedding.
She fell in love with someone else. Jeff's fiancee fell in love with a Russian. He broke up with another girlfriend because they always fought over his drinking, but had nothing else to talk about when he quit. Jeff warned Meg about his snoring, but never mentioned anything about it ending a relationship.
She took off her shoes and sat in a rocking chair. Meg did the same thing her mother did when she first Meg's father, and smiled the whole time.
MacPherson. Charles MacPherson Dalrymple married Jean MacLaren. Harry Beaton was in love with Jean and caused some disturbance at their wedding.
Tuesday. The miracle was originally planned for Tuesday, but since Charlie wouldn't be home from college until Wednesday (and would then have to miss his own wedding), it was put off until he arrived.
Maggie. While all are principle dancers in the show, Maggie danced the traditional Scottish mourning ritual for victim Harry. The sad display took place during Charlie and Jean's wedding.
nothing. No one was glad Harry died, but the citizens of Brigadoon were thankful that the miracle had not ended. Tommy later remarked that Jeff must feel "dead inside," to which Jeff replied that he didn't. He felt "nothing."
