solitaire. The entire show was designed to be a game of chess with human pawns, but that actual game was never shown onstage. Croquet was played, but only briefly at the beginning of Act II. Russian roulette was played by Fredrik and Carl-Magnus, but only at the end of Act II. Solitaire, however, was played by Mme. Armfeldt during the entire show. The audience could even hear her calling out plays offstage.
prayer book. Petra threw Henrik's prayer book at him after he retrieved Anne's handkerchief. Henrik threw a glass during dinner, and Petra charmed Frid into helping her with the Egermans' suitcases.
death. Everyone drank to life, but only the matriarch and the Countess lifted a glass to death.
Fredrika. Fredrika found him first. Anne then found Fredrika who helped her look for the suicidal boy. Petra was in the woods--but with Frid--and Desiree was in her room singing "Send In the Clowns" to Fredrik.
He was happy.. Charlotte did throw herself at Fredrik--and nothing happened--but he never actually rejected her in so many words. Carl-Magnus was the one who challenged Fredrik, and only after this statement was made. Charlotte made a comment about Fredrik being married to such a young pretty girl, but didn't hate him for being married, just for being happy. Fittingly, this revelation came only seconds before they both witnessed Fredrik's wife run away to elope with his son.
