Chemistry all day with a math class thrown in every once in a while. As you can see, Kate really loves chemistry and math.
Ms. Cummings. Ms. Cummings is the AP Chemistry teacher and helped turn Kate on to nanotechnology, get over her biochem prejudice, and supervised all of Kate's science fair entries.
Chicken and Biscuit Night. Kate works as a server in the kitchen at the dinner.

Nathaniel Benson. Nathaniel was an apprentice to the Peale family, who were an actual family living during this crisis.
During the night after the thieves attacked him. Mattie's grandfather does not die from yellow fever. He has a problem not specifically mentioned in the book that kills him.
Nell, Robert, William. Robert and William are the two sons of Joseph, a friend of Eliza's who she cared for while he had the fever. Nell was a girl Mattie found on the streets whose mother had died from the fever.
mosquito bites. It was only in 1902 that Dr. Walter Reed discovered that the disease was spread by the female mosquito, Aedes aegypti.
bleeding infected people. Dr. Rush prescribed that patients be bled to rid their body of the pestilence. This did not help, and only made the person weaker.
