How old was Suze when she met Madame Zara?"The Mediator" by Jenny Carroll

twelve. She finally had a name for her "ability".

Let's start at the very beginning. The book "Shadowland" starts with Suze flying to California. On the way and after arriving, she is fascinated with different types of unfamiliar vegetation she encounters. Which are the plants she sees, and talks about, from the first sentence in the book?A "Mediator" Quiz

Palm trees. At the very start of the first book, Suze is amazed that there are palm trees in Southern California, where she is now moving to. Soon afterwards (in the parking lot of the airport) she discovers hibiscus and cyprus trees, and more palm trees. It's not until book two that she discovers the harmful effects of poison ivy...

When arriving at her new home, Suze becomes reacquainted with her new stepbrothers. Because she thinks it's rather funny, she has named them after characters from a Disney movie. Which Disney movie is this? A "Mediator" Quiz

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. She has three new stepbrothers, Jake, Brad and David, whom she likes to call Sleepy, Dopey and Doc: Sleepy because she thinks Jake's always asleep, Dopey because she thinks Brad's really stupid, and Doc because David is really smart... and small.

On her first day in Carmel, Suze finds out that Jake has a job at a pizza place, for whom he delivers pizza (or 'za, as he takes to calling it). What is the name of this pizza place?A "Mediator" Quiz

Peninsula Pizza. Jake delivers pizzas for Peninsula Pizza as he is saving up for a Camaro. During the summer, he's a lifeguard for Pebble Beach Hotel and Golf Resort, and through this place he gets Suze a job babysitting. Kelly and Deb are always thinking about ordering something so Jake will deliver it.

The first person Suze meets at Junipero Serro Academy is Adam McTavish. They immediately find something to talk about. What is it? A "Mediator" Quiz

A life-size crucifix. Yes, there was a life-size crucifix hanging in the office behind the secretary, which Suze was staring at. Adam took this opportunity to amuse her by saying "He's supposed to weep tears of blood if any girl ever graduates from here a virgin".

Suze, upon coming to her new class, opts to sit closer to a window, and, as a result, behind an albino, Cee Cee. Cee Cee soon tells her she doesn't need her pity, and with Suze's reply they become friends. Does Cee Cee have braces when Suze first meets her?A "Mediator" Quiz

Yes. Cee Cee has almost white hair, pink skin, purple eyes and "a mouthful of braces that winked as brightly as the sea outside the window". She's the editor of the school paper, and we later find out, has a psychic aunt named Pru. Cee Cee also has a little bit of a crush on Adam.

In the second book, "Ninth Key", Suze receives a ride with a multimillionaire, and time spent in one of his rooms being forced to put on a bathing costume so he could pretend her murder is an accident. She also receives her first kiss. Who is it from?A "Mediator" Quiz

Tad Beaumont. Suze receives her first kiss from Tad in his souped up car, after she went to his house to talk to his father about things she'd heard about him (she became slightly frightened when she realised he had a lot of vampire-like symptoms). Little did she know that Jesse would appear in the back seat...

Just for a little bit of random trivia, what colour is the bathing suit that Suze is forced to try on in Mr Beaumont's office, so Marcus can pretend her death was accidental?A "Mediator" Quiz

Red. Marcus leaves Suze alone in Mr Beaumont's office so she can change into a red swimsuit. She spends the entire time trying to escape: eventually she smashes the aquarium as Marcus is entering, climbs into it, breaks one of the lights and throws it down on the water by his feet. A very cool move, I think.

In one of the first four books of the series Suze has to handle several restless ghosts, dressed in formal wear, 'the girls with wrist corsages, even'. Coined 'The RLS Angels' after their death, they were apparently 'pillars of society'. What is the name of this book?A "Mediator" Quiz

Reunion. In the third book of the series, Suze's best friend from Brooklyn, Gina, comes over to visit just as four ghosts start trying to kill the guy that killed them. In trying to save said guy, he starts thinking Suze has a bit of a crush on him... disturbing, but helpful, as it keeps him close to Suze. The guy ends up being a killer, so he goes to jail at the end of the book.

Jenny Carroll also writes books under the name Tamora Pierce, with work under this name including "The Immortals" and "The Song of the Lioness". Under the name Tamora Pierce she also started "sheroescentral.com" with another writer. Is this statement true or false?A "Mediator" Quiz

      f. Jenny Carroll is a pseudonym, the name of the author's dead cat. However, her real name, which she also writes under, is Meg Cabot, and under this name she wrote the series 'Princess Diaries' and some other books. She also writes under the name Meggin Cabot and Patricia Cabot. She started sheroescentral.com with another writer... Tamora Pierce! Check out some of her other work, they're just as good as "Mediator"!

Now for my favourite part of "The Mediator" series: a ghost named Jesse. When we first meet Jesse, he's complacently sitting on a window seat in Suze's room, but pretty soon he becomes very angry. What did Suze do to him to make him angry?A "Mediator" Quiz

She called him a cowboy. Suze first sees Jesse in her new room, and waits for her mother to leave before talking to him, but the conversation doesn't go quite like she wanted it to. He's adament on not leaving, and can't tell her what his 'glitch' is. He remains calm and collected until she calls him a cowboy: then he reacts by telling her his family had worked like slaves to get where they were, but never as vaquero. She also touches him, making him ask her "What sort of... girl are you?"

We find out in one of the books that Jesse is not, in fact, Jesse's real name. His last name is de Silva, but only his family and close friends called him Jesse. What did everyone else, including his fiancée, call him instead?A "Mediator" Quiz

Hector. A name you might not expect, having no relation to the name Jesse, but Hector de Silva he was. You have to remember he came from a very traditional Spanish family, which possibly has something to do with the reason he only calls Suze by her proper name, Susannah.

Jesse had many sisters, ranging in ages from six to sixteen at the time he died. We learn this from letters he wrote to his fiancée, which Suze finds at the Carmel-by-the-sea Historical Society, from Dr Clive Clemmings, PhD. How many sisters did he have?A "Mediator" Quiz

Five. Yes, Jesse had five sisters, which Suze doesn't find out until reading his letters to Maria de Silva, his cousin who he is engaged to. Jesse asked for these letters back when he wanted to break off the engagement, but Maria didn't like that, and so had him killed. She ended up marrying a slave-driver, Diego, and they had lots of children, who all turned out pretty bad, apparently. One of them sold her portrait at a garage sale.

Jesse has a scar. Suze always thought it would have been from a knife in a fight or something, but she later finds out it's from a dog bite. When he gets angry it appears white. Where is this scar?A "Mediator" Quiz

Eyebrow. Suze notices the scar the first time she sees Jesse, as well as some other things: his nice abdominals, hair, eyes, voice, the Latino thing he has going... But she doesn't like him straight away. It takes a while for her to warm up to him, greatly helped by his saving her life several times. Over time they become great friends, and fall in love with each other.

Suze's mother is a news presenter on a local station, who married Andy after her first husband, Suze's father, died. Can you tell me her name?A "Mediator" Quiz

It never says in any of the books. They never say her name in any of the first four books. Check it for yourself... not once do they say it. Suze refers to her as Mom, and none of the other characters ever mention it either.

What plant is introduced in the first sentence of "Shadowland?"Simon Says Take This Quiz

palm trees. Since Suze was moving to northern California, she didn't think there would be palm trees there.

Why doesn't Suze like old buildings?Simon Says Take This Quiz

there are usually dead people hanging around. Since Suze is a mediator, who sees and speaks with the dead, she finds it highly annoying that there are ghosts everywhere pestering her. What about her social life?

"Dopey" is the nickname for whom?Simon Says Take This Quiz

Brad. Suze has a nickname based on the Seven Dwarves for all three of her stepbrothers. The oldest, Jake, is Sleepy. The youngest, David, is Doc. He is incredibly smart beyond his years.

My favorite character! What does Jesse secretly want to be?Simon Says Take This Quiz

doctor. This piece of information is disclosed in the fifth book. In the sixth, it comes to some use...except I'm not telling cause some people might not have read every book yet! (Pick it up right now if you haven't. I was sobbing by the end!)

In "Reunion", who was the boy who killed the RLS Angels?Simon Says Take This Quiz

Micheal Meducci. Micheal Meducci was a geek Suze was protecting from the dead people whom he had murdered. Underneath the geek, however, was quite a fine body, according to Suze, Gina, and Cee Cee.
