He threw her in the pool and let her drown.. Kimberly was a call girl who was going to visit a mysterious man named Mr. X. He never revealed his identity to any of the women he saw, because he only appeared in dimly lit places. Kimberly never even got to meet Mr. X because his chauffeur threw her in the pool and let her drown. This happened one year before the main story.
Freddie Leon. Madison Castelli was a journalist for the New York magazine "Manhattan Style". Her boss, Victor Simmons, sent her to Hollywood to interview a powerful talent agent named Freddie Leon. On the plane, Madison met TV host Bo Deacon and variety show hostess Salli Turner.
Natalie's stereo and CDs. Natalie was Madison's roommate in college and best friend. She was a TV newscaster. Recently Natalie had broken up with her boyfriend, Denzl, and he had taken her stereo and CD collection when he left. Madison stayed at Natalie's house when she was in L.A.
She was in a car accident.. Cherie was Kristin's sister, and both of them had dreams of becoming actresses. Soon after they arrived in Hollywood, Cherie started dating Howie Powers, the son of a business executive. Howie was also a heavy drug user. One night he was driving with Cherie and fell asleep at the wheel and crashed into another car. Howie was uninjured, but Cherie was in a coma. Kristin had to pay all her sister's hospital bills.
Phone. Right after she arrived in L.A., Madison phoned Victor to try to get the interview with Freddie set up. After she was done, Natalie was heading out and asked Madison if she needed anything. Madison said just to put her next to a phone, and she was happy. Natalie hosted the entertainment section of the nightly news.
Barbara Walters. Madison and Natalie went to a restaurant together and a 72-year old man tried to come on to them. After Natalie told him off, she said she and Madison sholdn't worry about men and concentrate on their careers. Natalie said she would like to be the first black version of Barbara Walters.
He was selling his share of International Artists' Agency.. When Max first met Madison to set up an interview, he hinted that he would be making a major announcement soon. In the next chapter, Sam Lowski, the talent agent, informed Freddie Leon that Max was going to sell his share of Freddie's agency, the International Artists' Agency. Sam also said that Billy Cornelius, the head of Orpheus Studios, was planning to make Max the head of production, as soon as Billy dropped his current studio head, Ariel Shore. Freddie immediately wanted to get a hold of Ariel.
Owned a dog. Madison went to Salli Turner's house to interview her. Salli asked Madison if she had any dogs. When Madison said she didn't, Salli said if her dogs ever had puppies, she would send one to her. Salli then said she had read somewhere that you would live ten years longer if you owned a dog. "Ten years longer than what?" Madison questioned.
Freddie. Freddie and his wife, Diana, often hosted dinner parties. That night at the party, Diana got mad at Freddie for inviting two guests at the last minute, Ariel Shore and her husband.
Jimmy Sicca's wife. Jimmy Sicca, brother of Jake Sicca, was an anchorman at the news station where Natalie worked. Jimmy asked Natalie if she and Madison would like to come to his house for dinner. At Jimmy's house, the ladies met his wife, Bunny. She had been called Bunny since she was a little girl because she collected rabbits. Natalie met Jimmy's friend Luther and wanted to start dating him right away.
