Interesting Questions, Facts, and Information
Duma Key
Building site accident. A former building contractor, now highly skilled artist, Edgar was almost killed on a building site. He lost an arm, and suffered Broca's Aphasia, whereby he couldn't use correct words and grammar. He also tried, when in hospital, to choke his wife, and attacked her on other occasions.
Right. This happened when the crane backed into his car. Ouch...
2. His daughters are Ilse (younger) and Melinda (older).
Florida. 'Home of the newly wed and nearly dead', referenced in the book on a couple of occasions.
Elizabeth Eastlake. In her mid-eighties and afflicted with Alzheimer's disease, Elizabeth inherited a number of properties and a vast amount of cash from her father.
Wireman. Initially afflicted by a round in his brain, deteriorating vision and seizures - Edgar eventually cures him of these by painting them gone.
Reba. He named it after country & western star Reba McIntyre.
Salmon Point. His upstairs room, mainly used for drawing, is named 'Little Pink', where most of the (spooky) magic occurs.
Yes. Though only after Wireman and Edgar's wife Pam intervene and start arranging everything for him!
Perse. Perse is the dark force surrounding Duma Key, the one Elizabeth Eastlake called 'Noveen'.
Edgar, Wireman and Jack Cantori. Not for the first time (and hopefully not the last), King shows his talent for creating scary situations using only words when the three 'adventurers' arrive. The lawn-jockey and the alligator? I'd have been out of there like a shot!
Fourth. Edgar uses Noveen while drawing inside Heron's Roost.
No. It was Jack Cantori who retrieved the basket. Edgar merely uses the contents and begins to understand what happened in the past at Heron's Roost and Duma Key.
Thanks a-plenty for trying the quiz. I'll be back writing a harder (well, more detailed anyway!) quiz once I've managed to catch up with college work. Keep quizzing and rating!
A crane backs into his truck. While Edgar is at a job site, a crane with a malfunctioning back-up beeper demolishes his truck, and his body. He loses an arm, his right leg is totally mangled, and his memory is severely effected.
Kamen. Dr. Kamen is one of Edgar’s first friends after his accident.
Florida. Duma Key is an island right off the coast of Florida, just inside the Gulf of Mexico.
"It was RED!". When Edgar thinks of “It was RED!” he’s thinking of a line from a song by Reba McEntire, then he can remember Reba’s name.
Paint and draw. Dr. Kamen tells Edgar to do something he loves to do. Edgar loved to sketch when he was in college, and excels at it when he picks it up again in Duma.
Scoto Art Gallery. Dario loves Edgar’s paintings and almost forces him to show his stuff.
Ilse. Ilse was always the daughter that showed she loved Edgar more, and Edgar couldn’t help but favor her.
Mary Ire. Mary Ire kills Ilse because Perse was able to force her to, through one of the "Girl and Ship" series of paintings that Mary had bought.
Noveen. Noveen is Elizabeth’s doll that tells her to paint specific pictures.
Hummer. Edgar thought it was very big and tacky.
Palm Desert. Lake Phalen is the place Edgar moved to after Pam asked him for the divorce.
no. Several times he tells us that it was as if Duma Key had wanted him there. Edgar asks his real estate agent if he'd seen other places, cities (he doesn't remember), and she responds that indeed she had send him several brochures, but Edgar only recalls the one for "Salmon Point" in Duma Key.
ifsogirl88. Edgar receives email from Ilse shortly after his arrival, and the screen name appears several times. Edgar also called Ilse "my Ifsogirl" a couple of times.
Addie. Edgar doesn't really know until Elizabeth points out that it was her sister Addie.
Charley. Emery was Addie's husband, Eddie is from one of my other favorites "The Dark Tower".
Jack. Jack remembers that as a kid he was "good", but Noveen gave him a run for his money.
blue flashlight. Edgar doesn't understand why Jack tries to give him the flashlight until he (Jack) explains it's to put Perse in.
No. Edgar says he didn't get to meet up with him; Wireman had died before Edgar arrived.
