Interesting Questions, Facts, and Information
Johansen, Iris
Maritz. Maritz was the assassin, Gardeaux gave out the order, and Conner was the driver for the limo referred to as a 'rabbit' by Jamie Reardon.
because she was afraid he wouldn't love her anymore. Nell was always pushed around in life, considering herself an Ugly Duckling (hence the title) because of her appearance. When she had a daughter she married Richard to get approval of her daughter from her parents. She fooled herself into thinking she loved Richard, yet Richard used that weakness to control Nell. Nell was afraid of losing Richard's love and fooled herself into thinking he wasn't controlling her.
Maritz. Nell tells Jill that it was just some shadows. Then later on in the first conversation between Maritz and Gardeaux, Maritz is coming up with excuses as to why he killed Jill. One of these reasons is that Jill saw him twice and may be able to identify him. Gardeaux then says that Maritz was in the caves and wearing goggles the first time. Gardeaux then says that Maritz was just angry about Nell putting up a fight.
Kabler. Kabler spent much of the book turning Nell against Tanek. Near the end he takes her captive so she can't help Tanek. Eve is a fake identity Nell made up. Peter and Drake are the same person- Peter Drake was the kid that helped Nell at the military training facility that she went to in order to prove she would do anything to train for her revenge.
Madame Swan. Nell tells her theory about how she must become a swan, as she considers herself an ugly duckling. When she comes back a year after leaving to grow into a metaphorical version of a swan, Tanek calls her Madame Swan.
Ralph Dandridge. Ralph Dandridge helped Nell with the computer at the library; he didn't want her to pay him back, so she took him to lunch to repay him. Pietro Danielo is Gardeaux's swordsman.
Arnold Schwarzenegger. Nell considers Tanek as strong as Schwarzenegger, and compares them when she first sees Tanek.
Helen of Troy. When Joel starts to work on a computerized version of Nell's face, Tania comes in and makes observations. She then says that he should make the face resemble Helen of Troy's in the fact that it could set sail a thousand ships.
Jill. Hopefully you don't need any info. Oh, well. Jill was Nell's daughter; she was killed in the first chapter by Maritz because Nell had fought back and made Maritz angry.
Most of the earlier books by Iris Johansen revolve around an elusive and mysterious Wind Dancer. What is the Wind Dancer? | Iris Johansen Books
|
a beautiful statue of a horse. Iris Johansen depicts the Wind Dancer as a pegasus-like sculpture with emerald eyes that can pierce one's soul. In her "Wind Dancer "series, she writes that instead of the Trojan horse, it is actually this statue that was the price of the fall of Troy which later on became the lucky charm of Alexander the Great and one of Marie Antoinette's favorite luxury items.
"The Golden Barbarian", my favorite Iris Johansen novel, is the story of Galen, a sheikh trying to make peace among his tribes, and Tess, the courageous princess who tames his wild heart. When Galen first sees Tess, what predicament does he find her in? | Iris Johansen Books
|
Tess is stuck in a quicksand with her dog. Galen rescues Tess from the quicksand on his first visit to her father's kingdom. He collects the debt later by asking Tess to marry him as a means to unite their kingdoms and rally his own tribes against barbarian raiders.
King Arthur. In an interesting ending to the novel, Iris Johansen tells of King Arthur retiring to a castle in the Scottish highlands instead of being wounded and brought to Avalon, as is the customary version.
Eve Duncan is one of Iris Johansen's most popular characters, featured in novels such as "Body of Lies", "The Killing Game" and "The Face of Deception" to name a few. What is Eve's profession? | Iris Johansen Books
|
forensic sculptor. A forensic sculptor is someone who studies skulls and tries to reconstruct them to come up with faces for identification.
In "Final Target", what is the medical situation that President Andreas' daughter suffers from as a result of a trauma? | Iris Johansen Books
|
catatonia. After witnessing her nanny shot before her eyes, Cassie Andreas slips into catatonia, a condition wherein "motor activity may be reduced to zero...individuals become mute and rigid, and initiate no social behaviors. What do Sam, Monty and Toby (characters from "Firestorm", "The Search" and "Blind Alley") have in common? | Iris Johansen Books
|
All of the answers are correct (They are all retrievers, They are all owned by women, They all help save or protect lives). Sam, Monty and Toby are dogs. Sam is a labrador retriever owned by Kerry Murphy, Monty is Sarah Patrick's golden retriever while Toby is a half-wolf, half-retriever that belongs to Jane MacGuire. They have all helped protect their owners or save other people's lives in extraordinary ways.
What is Thea of Dimas, the heroine of "Lion's Bride", carrying when Lord Ware first sees her? | Iris Johansen Books
|
a basket of worms. Thea of Dimas is a skilled silk weaver, and when Lord Ware first sees her, she is struggling in the desert with her basket of silk worms. Later on, she weaves a golden banner for him with the insignia of a Lion, which brings luck to Saladin but unfortunately brings the Knights Templar on their heels.
What is unusual about the mirror possessed by the Delaneys at their ranch in Killara, as told in "The Delaney's Christmas Carol"? | Iris Johansen Books
|
it gives a glimpse of the future. The mirror is a gift from the gypsies and only those who are genuine Delaneys can look into the mirror and see what the future has in store for them.
In "Blind Alley", Jane MacGuire is at peril because she resembles Cira, a beautiful actress from the ancient city of Herculaneum. How did Cira die? | Iris Johansen Books
|
Cira gets trapped during the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. According to the book, Herculaneum was among the Roman cities buried in the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius and Cira was one of those who failed to escape. She was believed to have been buried along with the treasures her lovers gave her. We find out differently later, though, in another book...
My last question is about "Fatal Tide", the first gift my fiance bought me. Like some of Iris Johansen's characters, the heroine of this book, Melis Nemid, also has pets named Pete and Susie who are the keys to a mysterious discovery. What are her pets? | Iris Johansen Books
|
dolphins. Melis has worked with dolphins all her life. In "Fatal Tide", Pete and Susie are the only ones who can tell her the location of Marinth, a fabled, treasure-laden city buried beneath the sea, much like Atlantis. Marinth is another in quite a long line of mysterious cities that Johansen likes to create. Other fictional realms are Sedikhan, an exotic desert kingdom and Kantalan, another wealthy city destroyed in a volcanic eruption. Hope you enjoyed the quiz!
Bobby Joe. At first, the local police suspected Bobby Joe to have drowned in the river since they could not find his body. However, after being alerted by Joe Quinn, Sheriff Jedroth suspected that Henry Kistle might have murdered the boy. He turned out to be right since the bones of Bobby Joe were discovered weeks later buried in a vat of acid.
All of the above (He had a debt to repay, He wanted to find Bonnie, He wanted to be back in Eve's life). Luis Montalvo first appears in "Stalemate" as a ruthless colonel from Colombia who wanted Eve to reconstruct his wife's skull. He eventually develops an attachment for Eve, which causes a strain on her relationship with Joe.
they all had a stake through their hearts with a note for Eve. After killing the sheriff, Henry Kistle decided to hide in Clayborne forest. He killed three men, all to send a message to Eve.
the lady with the box. Megan Blair first appears in "Pandora's Daughter". She is a 'Listener' which means she can hear voices. She recently discovered that like her mother, she is also a 'Pandora', which means she can unleash the latent gifts of others. She was called upon by Venable to help find the remains of Bobby Joe. At first, Eve does not believe in her, but the two women eventually become friends.
Bonnie had a favorite song about a wishing star. Henry Kistle was merely a suspect in Bonnie's murder but he almost made Eve believe he truly killed Bonnie when he mentioned Bonnie's favorite song. Joe later found out that the detail was mentioned in a newspaper article, and was therefore not proof that Henry was Bonnie's real killer.
Laura Ann. Henry Kistle was able to kidnap Laura Ann by convincing her that he was her daddy's friend. He had intended to use her to lure Eve then kill her but she managed to escape and was eventually rescued.
Eve. After wounding Eve, Henry Kistle decided to go after Laura Ann and finish her off. Eve, however, went back to the boat to get Joe's gun with which she shot Kistle several times.
He started seeing Bonnie. Although Joe loves Eve, he doesn't feel the same way for Bonnie since he never knew her and in fact, considers her as his competition and an obsession which will eventually be the death of Eve. He is considering giving up the search for Bonnie entirely. At the end of the book, however, he begins to 'see' Bonnie as Eve has for years - something which is implied as Megan's doing.
Thank you for playing!
