Interesting Questions, Facts, and Information
Karon, Jan
Sligo, Ireland. He spent two months on vacation digging up family history in Sligo with his brother Walter and Walter's wife Katherine.
Marge Owen. Although Hal and Marge took care of him while Father Tim was on vacation, Marge was the one who wrote to Father Tim before he left Ireland to brag on Dooley.
Buck Leeper. Although not the most savory character, he comes around later in the book, and then even more in the third book, "These High Green Hills".
New York City. She doesn't initially tell Father Tim she's going, and he is panicked to simply find the moving truck at her house one day and Cynthia gone. But don't worry...it all works out happily!
rudely hang up on someone. She hangs up first on Father Tim, then later on Edith Mallory. Love certainly does some strange things to a person...
Good.. Father Tim is very angry at Dooley, but more so at himself, since he was supposed to talk to Dooley about staying away from the site himself.
pearl and amethyst. Father Tim originally gave the brooch to his mother for her last Christmas before she died, then took it and put it in the bank lock box for safe keeping before he gave it to Cynthia.
Meg Patrick. A strange woman with fiery red hair, green eyes, and a habit of mooching and lying!
2 months. After he makes her leave he calls Riley Kavanagh, whom she stayed with in Massachusetts. It turns out that she has never even been to Ireland and has someone over there in Sligo who mails letters to people who have visited Ireland recently from "across the pond" to learn about their family history. She's a fraud!
Greyhound Station or Airport. He gives her the two choices, tells her to put his books in a neat stack, clean up, and then he will take her to the place of her choice.
June. Father Tim has so many commitments in the month of June that he can scarcely see straight!
Cynthia and Father Tim. All of the books center around the events in the lives of Cynthia and Father Tim Kavanaugh and their neighbors and friends. Uncle Billy and Miss Rose are two interesting characters in the town. Dooley is Father Tim's charge and Pauline is his mother. Winnie and Thomas own the local bakery in Mitford.
Violet. Margaret is Hope Winchester's cat. The other two I made up.
Emma Newland. Vanita Bentley is a columnist for the local newspaper. Hope Winchester owns the local bookstore. Fancy Skinner is the owner of the only unisex salon in Mitford.
Barnabas. Mick was the name of a red setter Father Tim met on a beach when he was a boy and never forgot. The other names are made up.
her Orange Marmalade layer cake. Esther's claim to fame was her famous Orange Marmalade cake. The rest are a figment of my imagination.
The Muse. With the exception of the Muse, all are made up.
Adele Hogan. Esther Cunningham is mayor of Mitford. Edith Mallory pursued and tried to seduce Father Tim for years. Evie Adams was always pouring salt on snails to keep them from killing her hostas.
Whitecap Island. He went to Whitecap Island, a fictional island, on the outerbanks of North Carolina. The others, of course, are real cities in North Carolina.
Fernbank. Fernbank is correct and the others just sound pretty to me.
Thanks for playing and hope you enjoyed the trip to Mitford.
