An Ingmar Bergman. A Swedish movie, probably with subtitles. No wonder Lisey would have preferred the Redford! But she was furious with Scott for arriving late and drunk, so Scott gave her the blood-bool to make it right...
A bool. A bool, as you know, can be a joke or harmless prank. The entire "book" (which Lisey though on first sight was a thousand pages) read 'Ike came home with a boom, and everything was fine. BOOL! THE END'. The book that made Scott and Lisey rich was his third, 'Empty Devils'.
