Men At Arms
"Which way to the, you know, the... er... you know, the young ladies right?". Guess they don't think with their brains!
Here'n'now. The man intended to go all the way up to Dunmanifestin to steal the Secret of Fire from the Gods... and thousands of years after Fingers-Mazda had already done it. He said it gave it a sort of "antique value".
He used a mirror. Males are competitive by nature. When Chubby saw his reflexion he tried to make himself bigger than himself - BUM!
Geographically divergent in the financial hemisphere. It means he just disagrees with other people about the position of things. Like money, he thinks it should all be in his pocket.
A Klatchian fire engine. The thing had been banned in eight countries and three religions said they'd excommunicate any soldiers using it. Five more embraced it as a holy weapon to be used on all infidels, heretics, gnostics and people who fidgeted during the sermon.
Lord Vetinari. "Lord Vetinari stood up as he saw the Watch runnig toward him. That was why the first shot went through his thigh instead of his chest."
Gold foil over wood. Rotten wood by the way: "... rot and worms had fought one another to a standstill over the last biodegradable fragment."
"many". This is how trolls count: one, two, three, many... many-one, many-two, many-three... many-many-one, many-many-two, many-many-three... So, they can count up to 'many'.
What did Edward d'Eath find in the forest near the dwarf mines of Copperhead? | Men At Arms

A ring. The ring is proof that Carrot is the rightful heir to the throne of Ankh-Morpork.
He spent his nights too close to the High Energy Magic building at the Unseen University. Gaspode suffers from -in his own words- "chronic intelligence". He is not overly pleased with the situation.
Leonard da Quirm. Leonard da Quirm is brilliant in every way, except for thinking up names for his inventions. They usually end up being excruciatingly long and completely useless.
Who was the first person to be shot by the Gonne? | Men At Arms
|
Bjorn Hammerhock. Chubby is the dragon that gets blown up in the Assassins Guild, Dr. Cruces is the Head of the Assassins Guild, and Big Fido is a crazy street-thug poodle.
In smells. Lance-Constable Angua is the only werewolf in the City Watch, and -eventually- Captain Carrot's girlfriend.
What happens to Detritus when he gets locked into the warehouse? | Men At Arms

He gets smarter. It turns out that trolls get smarter and smarter the colder it gets. The warmer it is around them, the slower they think and act.
What's the name of the Captain of the Day Watch? | Men At Arms

Captain Quirke. By some called Mayonnaise Quirke, as he is "slick, thick and oily". Also, he smells faintly of eggs.
Poodle. Big Fido is the leader of a pack of stray dogs that are terrorizing the streets and alleys of Ankh-Morpork. He is as crazy as they come.
Lance-Constable Angua. Lance-Constable Detritus is a troll, Lance-Constable Cuddy is a dwarf, and Corporal Nobbs is probably the only person on the Disc who carries a written document to prove he is in fact human.
His badge. Vetinari does allow Vimes to keep his badge since he is retiring the next day and can therefore have an honorable retirement. Of course we know that Vetinari was just prodding Vimes to continue working on the case anyway.
Duke of Pseudopolis. We discover this when Nobby shows off his extensive knowledge of weapons in the armory. Of course, as Sergeant Colon points out, Pseudopolis lost all its wars, then asks Nobby who he sold the weapons to. Nobby replies that they just spent a lot of time away being polished and sharpened - about one hundred percent of the time actually.
Leonard of Quirm. Leonard was cursed with intelligence and inspirations and a fascination with the world. Other world leaders may have killed Leonard, but Vetinari considered him so perfect of his type that he was hard to destroy. Instead he locked him in a room in the Palace, provided him with food and materials and let him tinker away, oblivious to the outside world other than Vetinari's occasional visits. He has never in his entire life harmed a living creature. It is his ideas that are dangerous because he can innocently design a machine of incredible military cruelty in the margins of a drawing of the beauty of the human smile. (But of course nobody would ever dare to actually build it.)
The hoho. A haha is a ditch dug in the land so rich landowners don't have to see cattle and inconveniet poor people going by. Thanks to B.S. Johnson's unique grasp of measurements the Patrician's Palace has a hoho, a ditch fifty feet deep and had claimed three gardeners already.
The city militia. Having determined that there was an irreperable breakdown of law and order and having been asked for assistance by an officer of the city who is a citizen in good standing, he re-formed the Night Watch into a city militia according to the "Laws and Ordinances of Ankh-Morpork". The officer at the Armory ignores Carrot's request for entry, but when Nobby approaches and says he is an Auditor, they get in.
"Mayonnaise" Quirk. Rich, thick and oily; and smells faintly of eggs.
Big Fido. He was a normal dog with a collar, and a blanket, basket and food bowl all with his name on them until one day something went "click"; he savaged his owner, attacked a Labrador and killed the leader of the largest feral dog gang (Barking Mad Arthur) and turned a band of strays into what he thought a wolfpack was. Oh, and he was a poodle.
2000. The Librarian puts it to best use by dropping it - unfortunately it is Lance-Constable Cuddy on whom he drops it.
Orthopaedic reasons. His back was giving him trouble again, so she mixed gravel into his dirt. Other residents at Mrs. Cake's lodgings were Reg Shoe the zombie, Mr. Ixolite the banshee, Mrs. Drull the retired ghoul now doing children's party catering, and of course her daughter Ludmilla who is part werewolf.
