seal. It is rumored to be made of pure gold and studded with jewels. While rumors have abounded, it was actually kept by Matthias. It was also the reason why Rutledge wanted to kill him.
Alastair and Selena. All the others are couples who were married (Lucy and Vanneck), are married (Matthias and Immogent), and is most likely soon to be married (Patricia and Hugo).
passion . "Passion and Zamar" are the reasons he gave. He claimed that it was enough, had to be enough, to bind them together. In truth, though, he was probably already in love with her just as she was with him.
Vanneck. He was Lucy's husband and was having an affair with Selena, aka Lady Starlight and 1/2 of the Demon Twins and twin sister of Alastain, during the time that Immogen visited Lucy. Lucy believes that Vanneck killed Lucy but, later on, found out that it was Alastair and Selena who did the deed. Later on, they also killed Vanneck.
Lucy. Patricia is Matthias' half-sister, Horatia is Immogen's aunt and Monica is the name of one the characters in a TV series called "Friends". Lucy was Immogen's bestfriend whom Immogen dearly loved. In reality, though, she was a mean, self-centered woman who was obsessed with Alastair, which led to her death. Lucy was found dead the day after Immogen was caught with Vanneck in a bedchamber. She had taken a large amount of laundanum and wrote a suicide letter saying she was betrayed by her bestfriend and husband.
