Rose Madder
Norman Daniels. Norman is an extremely unpleasant man who likes to bite!
1985. Norman made himself a barbecued pork sandwich before cleaning up the blood while waiting for the ambulance to arrive. Nice guy!
Caroline. When she approached Norman with the name suggestion, he didn't really care one way or the other. "To Norman there had been only a tadpole that ended early."
Ramon Sanders. Ramon met up with Norman on a park bench to answer questions about the card. Norman felt him up for a bit, then threatened to pop his testicles by popping a tennis ball with his right hand. "I can do that with my left hand, too".

Pencil. He was mostly silent during this attack, except for "making a little plosive noise under his breath every time the pencil's blunt point dug into her skin: Poo! Poo! Poo!" This is probably the most chilling attack in the whole book, I got shivers reading it! Very creepy!

Wendy Yarrow. Wendy causes trouble by laughing at Norman when he was looking for Richie Bender. Norman and his partner Harley Bissington then raped her and beat her up. When she turns up in the painting, it is eventually revealed that her name is Dorcas, and she is Rose Madder's "assistant".
Peter Slowick. Norman calls him Thumper because he reminds him of Bambi's friend.

Dark Passage. The man who asks her to read it is Rob Lefferts, who then offers her a job reading for audio books. He is extremely impressed with her breath control....a talent she developed over the years being married to Norman.
Liberty City Loan & Pawn. This is where Rosie first meets Bill Steiner, whose father, Abe, owns the store.

Craig McClendon. "Because things were right on track, and soon a very hard and very heavy brick wall was going to drop onto Craig McClendon's wayward little daughter, Rosie"
Died in a car accident. Both her parents and her 16 year old brother were wiped out when a gravel truck veered across the road onto their side. Her father's head was found in a ditch 30 yards from the crash.
Pop's Kitchen. Rosie is extremely relieved when she sees it, because she wouldn't feel comfortable if the place was "too difficult".
I am a man who respects women. He thinks to himself "As long as they behave themselves, I respect them fine" The others are all stickers he looks at in the Women's Cultural Centre gift shop.
Radamanthus. "Wendy Yarrow"/Dorcas tells Rosie the name of the pony when she goes into the painting the first time.

Yarrow. Rosie hated Wendy for the accusation, even though it was true. All of the things that happened at the drug bust are what caused Norman to be abusive.
Right up close.. Rosie knew when she was going to be beaten because Norman always whispered, "Come here Rose. I gotta talk to you. I gotta talk to you right up close.".
