They had just finished playing tennis.. Ginnie and Selena had played tennis five straight Saturday mornings at the East Side Courts. Ginnie considered Selena to be the biggest "drip" at their school, but she didn't know anyone as dependable for bringing a fresh can of tennis balls.
Ginnie always had to pay the whole cab fare.. Ginnie suggested that they take the bus home but Selena insisted that they take a taxi. Ginnie informed Selena that she owed her $1.90 to pay for her portion of the cab rides.
Pneumonia. Selena told Ginnie that her mother wouldn't enjoy being disturbed just for money. This statement simply annoyed Ginnie though who responded with "I didn't give it to her".
He is her brother.. Ginnie thought that Franklin was the funniest-looking boy, or man, she had ever seen. Franklin had expected someone else and thus was surprised to see his sister's friend when he walked out of his room.
He cut his finger badly.. Franklin had cut his finger on some razor blades while looking for something in the wastebasket. Much of their conversation was about his cut finger and Ginnie recommended that he put iodine on it to stop the bleeding.
We're in the same class.. Ginnie gave this response to both Franklin and Eric at different times in the story. Ginnie was 15 years old at the time of the story so she and Selena were likely in eighth or ninth grade at the time.
An airplane factory. Franklin worked at the airplane factory for thirty-seven months. Franklin was not able to join the Army because he had rheumatic fever when he was a child.
Half of a chicken sandwich. Franklin also offered Ginnie a glass of milk because he figured she'd be hungry and thirsty after playing tennis. Ginnie at first refused the sandwich but began to eat it after Franklin brought it out for her.
Cocteau's "Beauty and the Beast". Eric told Ginnie that the film is pure genius and that he's seen it eight times. Selena was wearing a dress at the end of the story so it seems as though she is going to see the movie with Eric and Franklin. As Selena was about to leave, Ginnie asked questions that seemed to indicate that she liked Franklin. She also doesn't make Selena pay for her share of the cab rides.
